1. Security Volunteers

Recognizing that folks are usually busy during the summer, we would welcome your presence. Whether during the summer or starting in the fall, if you have some time to spare, 3 hours per month, would you be willing to volunteer with Dwight Colwell and our security team? These special volunteers will be asked to provide building security for three hours in the evenings, one evening a month, Mondays through Fridays, from 6 – 9 p.m. Dwight will provide on the job training.

We would be pleased to welcome you to the team. For more information, please contact Dwight Colwell at colwelldwight@gmail.com or call 506-459-7008.

2. Camera Operator Needed for July 30

The Sanctuary service is in need of a camera operator for THIS Sunday, July 30.

Our usual team is off on a well-deserved vacation. If you’re able to help with this ministry to those who aren’t able to join us in person, please get in touch with the church office at 458-8348 or bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca.

Thank you for your willingness to serve in this way!

3. Family Sunday: August 6

Hey folks! Coming up next weekend is another long weekend. We will be keeping our family with us in the worship services on Sunday, August 6. We are giving our Preschool and KidzTown staff, leaders, and volunteers a chance to join us for worship.

Our planned children’s activities will resume Sunday, August 13. Thank you for loving our family and our children in this way.

4. Summer Hours for KidzTown & Preschool

As a way to bless our children’s volunteers and leaders, for the rest of this summer, our Children’s ministries, both Preschool and KidzTown will now start at 10:50 a.m. Both Tina and Melanie will pick up the children from the gym service at this time and escort the children to their respective areas. If you attend the sanctuary service, please bring your children to the Connections Center at 10:45 a.m. to meet up with our crew on their way through.

Please still check your children in as usual in the Connections Center before the services.

5. Ordination Council: August 8

Fancy a Road Trip for Pastor Ross?

Over the last several months, Pastor Ross has been working very hard on his journey to Ordination. He has completed the required coursework and written his 15-page Statement of Faith… his faith is BIG! The final step for Pastor Ross is to appear before the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada’s Examining Council for Ordination. This appointment has been confirmed for Tuesday, August 8 at 4:15 p.m. in Room 177, Main Level of Stultz Hall, Crandall University, 333 Gorge Road, Moncton.

During this appointment, Pastor Ross will be answering questions about his theological statement to the Examining Council which is made up of 34 members. Following this, a recommendation letter from the church will be presented to the Council, they will have a discussion, make a decision, and then communicate the decision to Pastor Ross at the conclusion of the appointment. This entire process will take approximately 75 minutes.

How can you support Pastor Ross between now and August 8?

  • Pray that he can be rested and spiritually prepared for this very significant appointment.

  • Pray for Fi and their girls as they support him in the days leading up to August 8.

  • Take a road trip! Members of the church family are welcome to attend the appointment in support of Pastor Ross on August 8. If you plan to attend, there is a parking lot near Stultz Hall where you can park for free. What a practical way to show your individual support and to collectively show that the Brunswick Street family affirms his calling to ministry and ordination!

Chair, Board of Deacons

6. Oasis: August 10 – 12, 2023

Each year, the Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada send ‘delegates’ to OASIS, the annual gathering of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. This is an annual gathering for worship, discipleship, and to consider how we share together in living out the love of Jesus “everywhere”. Give a read:

We’re excited to welcome you to Oasis on August 10-12, 2023 at Crandall University in Moncton, New Brunswick

Our CBAC family can expect a joy-filled gathering as we celebrate our shared mission and stories of God’s work in this denominational family. We’ll worship together, share updates, discuss and vote on family business, and enjoy fellowship. In addition to the main schedule of activities, we’ll be facilitating special events alongside our partner organizations, as well as fun and engaging programs for kids and youth.

This year we’re thrilled to have Jason Ballard as our guest speaker and to hear a message for our CBAC family from Dr. Terry Atkinson as well.

This year, we can send 10 delegates. To be a delegate for BSBC you must be a member of BSBC. Otherwise, you can attend OASIS as a guest — everything but vote on business. Are you interested in being one of our delegates to OASIS? We are able to provide a stipend of $200 to cover your registration and help with expenses. We have space for six more delegates.

If you are able to attend, please contact Naomi in the church office (naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca) and she will complete your registration.

7. Summer Communion Service: August 13

We ask you to note that given the long weekend in August, communion will be offered on August 13. Communion for September will be offered on Sunday, September 3 when the gym, sanctuary and Mandarin congregations will combine as we launch the fall season of ministry.

8. Pastoral Care For The Summer

While Pastor Greg is on sabbatical, your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for the engagement of Pastor Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, the Baptist Chaplin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital…

13. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: July 30

The gym worship service will be under the musical leadership of Ross and friends. In the sanctuary, the worship service will under the musical leadership of David Steeves, featuring special music by David & Leah Steeves.

This Sunday, Pastor Keith will be speaking in both the sanctuary and the gym, going through the Book of Ezekiel in 20 minutes or less. Of this, he writes, “In 2 Kings 24, about ten years before the devastating invasion and destruction of Jerusalem, some of the city’s officials and high-ranking citizens are marched as prisoners to Babylon. Included in this group is Ezekiel the priest, and it is a shattering series of events as Ezekiel must think that his life is over. In a sense, it is over. But out of this upheaval, God does something remarkable things for both Ezekiel and the community in exile. One of the great gifts of this period is the book of Ezekiel, and this morning (in twenty minutes or less!) we will explore some passages in this story and notice some compelling points of application for all of us at TheStreet.”

Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
