1. Summer Changes for KidzTown & Preschool

As a way to bless our children’s volunteers and leaders, for the rest of this summer, our Children’s ministries, both Preschool and KidzTown will now start at 10:50 a.m.

Both Tina and Melanie will pick up the children from the gym service at this time and escort the children to their respective areas. If you attend the sanctuary service, please bring your children to the Connections Center at 10:45 to meet up with our crew on their way through.

Please still check your children in as usual in the Connections Center before the services.

2. Family Sunday: August 6

Hey folks! Coming up next weekend is another long weekend. We will be keeping our family with us in the worship services on Sunday, August 6. We are giving our Preschool and KidzTown staff, leaders, and volunteers a chance to join us for worship.

Our planned children’s activities will resume Sunday, August 13. Thank you for loving our family and our children in this way.

3. Ordination Council: August 8

Fancy a Road Trip for Pastor Ross?

Over the last several months, Pastor Ross has been working very hard on his journey to Ordination. He has completed the required coursework and written his 15-page Statement of Faith… his faith is BIG! The final step for Pastor Ross is to appear before the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada’s Examining Council for Ordination. This appointment has been confirmed for Tuesday, August 8th at 4:15 PM in Room 177, Main Level of Stultz Hall, Crandall University, 333 Gorge Road, Moncton.

During this appointment, Pastor Ross will be answering questions about his theological statement to the Examining Council which is made up of 34 members. Following this, a recommendation letter from the church will be presented to the Council, they will have a discussion, make a decision, and then communicate the decision to Pastor Ross at the conclusion of the appointment.  This entire process will take approximately 75 minutes.

How can you support Pastor Ross between now and August 8th?

  1. Pray that he can be rested and spiritually prepared for this very significant appointment.

  2. Pray for Fi and their girls as they support him in the days leading up to August 8th.

  3. Take a road trip!  Members of the church family are welcome to attend the appointment in support of Pastor Ross on August 8th. If you plan to attend, there is a parking lot near Stultz Hall where you can park for free. What a practical way to show your individual support and to collectively show that the Brunswick Street family affirms his calling to ministry and ordination!

Chair, Board of Deacons

4. Tidal Impact Update: July 22 – 28

Our youth are looking forward to Tidal Impact and spreading the love of Jesus into the local communities and various outreach programs around Saint John.

Our team includes 10 youth and five leaders. We will be leaving Fredericton on Saturday, July 22. Please pray for God’s grace and travelling mercies.

Please pray for our youth and our leaders, and that God can use us to make an IMPACT on the Tidal City of Saint John.

5. Oasis: August 10 – 12, 2023

Each year, the Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada send ‘delegates’ to OASIS, the annual gathering of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. This is an annual gathering for worship, discipleship, and to consider how we share together in living out the love of Jesus “everywhere”. Give a read:

We’re excited to welcome you to Oasis on August 10-12, 2023 at Crandall University in Moncton, New Brunswick

Our CBAC family can expect a joy-filled gathering as we celebrate our shared mission and stories of God’s work in this denominational family. We’ll worship together, share updates, discuss and vote on family business, and enjoy fellowship. In addition to the main schedule of activities, we’ll be facilitating special events alongside our partner organizations, as well as fun and engaging programs for kids and youth.

This year we’re thrilled to have Jason Ballard as our guest speaker and to hear a message for our CBAC family from Dr. Terry Atkinson as well.

This year, we can send 10 delegates. To be a delegate for BSBC you must be a member of BSBC. Otherwise, you can attend OASIS as a guest – everything but vote on business. Are you interested in being one of our delegates to OASIS? We are able to provide a stipend of $200 to cover your registration and help with expenses. We have space for eight more delegates.

If you are able to attend, please contact Naomi in the church office (naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca) and she will complete your registration. The deadline for early registration is July 15, 2023.

6. Summer Communion Service

We ask you to note that given the long weekend in August, communion will be offered on August 13. Communion for September will be offered on Sunday, September 3 when the Contemporary, Traditional, and Mandarin congregations will join together in the gym as we launch the fall season of ministry.

7. Muffin Mania: Booking for August & September

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.

Our schedule is now open for August, and September. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week, specifically July 16, July 30 as well as most of August and September. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the refrigerator in the main kitchen.

Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.

8. Pastoral Care for the Summer

While Pastor Greg is on sabbatical, your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care.  We are grateful for the engagement of Pastor Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, the Baptist Chaplin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital…

This Sunday, Pastor Keith will be speaking in both the sanctuary and the gym. Over the course of this week, many of the youth in our church have been part of “Tidal Impact.” Accordingly, this Sunday we will take the opportunity to have a NextGen fireside conversation with our colleague Pastor Charles Millette. In this conversation we will explore several portions of Scripture that invite us to a fresh vision of how our youth might flourish even in these days of cultural uncertainty and cultivate an authentic and vibrant faith. We will brainstorm with Pastor Charles about what it looks like to have our entire identity shaped and formed by the good news of the gospel and seek encouragement from God Word’s as we gather together.

Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
