This Week @ BSBC
1. Missions Month: Sept. 10 – Oct. 1
On Sunday, September 10, we began our “Missions Month” ministry, put together by our Missions Committee (thanks!). This Sunday, we will hear from Pastor Charles Millette and on Oct. 1, Dr. Keith Bodner will be talking with John Stewart on the subject of missions.
2. Missions Month Special: Sept. 24 & Oct. 1
Travelling very very far without your passport!
Join Charles and embark on a missional adventure, beginning this Sunday, 9:30am in the Barnabas Center, located in the church parking lot.
We will journey together for 3 weeks (Sept 17, 24 and Oct 1) as we dive into a course called "Welcoming the Nations Among Us", that will have us wrestle with missionary concepts and ideas such as: "No longer do you have to cross oceans to be a cross-cultural missionary to the unreached...you just have to cross the street. This may be the largest missions opportunity in our generation to take the hope of salvation to those least reached with the Gospel."
What to bring?
A Bible and a pen. Manuals will be provided.
Your travel mug. Tea and coffee will be served.
And maybe some healthy finger food to share!
Plus, if you have extra time on your hands on Sunday mornings, consider joining Charles at 9am, in the Barnabas Center for prayer & fellowship and maybe some set-up 😉!
À dimanche! Hasta luego! See you there!
Charles
3. Walk in the Park: Sept. 24
Come join us in Wilmot Park on Sunday, September 24th for our next church family outdoor activity. Hosted by our Missions Committee, this will be great time to take a leisurely family stroll around one of Fredericton’s oldest and most beautiful municipal parks while also picking up some interesting facts and the latest prayer requests regarding the Partners in Mission that our church family is currently supporting.
We will be meeting at the park’s gazebo in the center of the park at 2 pm to kick off the event with a brief time of prayer and information on one of our closest Partners in Mission. We will then be spreading out to the 4 corners of the park to see how many times we can make the loop around the outside parameter of the park which is approximately 1 km…a nice 15-minute stroll.
Members of the Missions Committee will be stationed at the corners of the park to briefly chat, hand out information on one of our other Partners in Mission …. and to encourage you to remember our partners in prayer as you proceed along your journey through the park.
Please bring your own water to stay hydrated….. and some snacks to enjoy as you move through the park or play on the swings. Take as many breaks as you like and just enjoy the experience of being together in this beautiful outdoor location. This is definitely not a race, but let’s see how many loops of the park we can achieve as a church family as we get Active in Missions this month.
Still not sure who our 5 Partners in Mission are? Come out and join us for our Pilgrimage in the Park on the 24th and find out. See you at the gazebo @ 2 pm!
4. Financial Report: To August 31, 2023
5. Church Family Potluck TONIGHT: Sept. 20, 5:30 pm
Our Church Family Potluck is happening Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Bring your favourite dish, salad, cookies, cake, fruit, or other treat! This is an intergenerational event for babies to seniors. Come, get to know each other, and invite your friends to come for supper! Gathering starts at 5:15 pm. For more information, contact AnnaMarie Colpitts.
6. Sunday School: Sundays at 9:30 am
Last Sunday, we welcomed our children and youth back to Sunday School. This is a time of learning for our children and youth and gives our Pre-K to Grade 12 students age-specific teaching about the gospel. Sunday School will take place from 9:30 – 10:15 am. You can register your children for Sunday School in their classrooms.
Please pick your children up from their classrooms at 10:15 am, check them in for KidzTown or Preschool in the Connections Center, and bring them into the worship services with you.
7. KidzTown & Preschool Check-Ins/Check-Outs
To bless our leaders and for the safety of our children at BSBC, for the Preschool and KidzTown ministry, please check in your children at the Connections Center for their ministry anytime between 10:00 and 10:15 am before your chosen worship service begins. Our Preschool and KidzTown leaders will collect the children from the gym at 10:45 am. If you attend the sanctuary service, your children will be collected from the Connections Center at this time also and taken to their respective classrooms.
Please take the identification tag to collect your children at the end of the worship service so we can be assured they are leaving with the correct adult.
8. Coffee Time: Sundays at 9:30 am
Please join us for coffee or tea and fellowship on Sunday morning in the Connections Center. For parents & adults there is a tea and coffee time during Sunday school in the Connection Center and family room. We welcome you to join and have a time of fellowship before the service!
9. Invitation to Pray
Jewish believers in God celebrate their New Year, called Rosh Hashanah (or Feast of Trumpets), and take part in a period of introspection and repentance called the 10 Days of Awe. This is a time to reflect on one's relationship with God and others, and it culminates on the last day called the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur. That day is a 25-hour solemn fast day during which Jewish people fast, pray, seek forgiveness and a fresh start both with God and the people in their lives. This year's Rosh Hashanah and 10 Days of Awe will start on Friday evening, the 15th of September and will conclude with Yom Kippur on the 25th of September at sunset.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have not traditionally been used to celebrating these feast days and times of introspection, but we know Jesus will one day return a second time where He will live here with us again.
I invite anyone who might like to join me for prayer from 1:30 – 3:00 pm each day this week, (Wednesday in the Family Room, Thursday/Friday in the Sanctuary). Although this covers only a portion of the 10 Days of Awe, it would be a meaningful and strategic time to come to God in prayer. Please feel free to drop in and join me, if only for a portion of the time. I expect the Holy Spirit to move in this special time.
Thank you,
Debbie Kierstead
10. Harvest for the Hungry
“Harvest for the Hungry”, a ministry from our Social Action Team, invites our church family to bring non-perishable food and household items to the church.
These items will be divided between our New Life Ministry (supporting families who struggle to ‘make ends meet’) and the Greener Village Fredericton Food Bank. The food collected makes a positive impact on families with great need and is a sign, we pray, of God’s love and His provision through His Church.
Here are the specific requests from our New Life Ministry:
Spaghetti sauce
Spaghetti noodles
Soup
Canned vegetables
Canned meat
Cereal
Kraft dinner
Rice
Packaged items for kid’s lunches
Toilet Paper
We invite you to do a little shopping and then bring your ‘harvest’ to the Connections Centre (on or before Thanksgiving Sunday) where it will be collected and ultimately distributed. Or you can make a financial donation to the project by simply designating your gift to “Harvest for the Hungry." Following Thanksgiving, we’ll divide these gifts between New Life and Greener Village.
Thank you for making Christ’s love known through your thankful giving and may God use our ‘harvest’ for His glory!
11. Third Sunday Supper
Dear Friends,
The Third Sunday Supper is going strong with up to 50 guests some Sundays. This is an incredible ministry where we can meet folks in a relaxing and loving atmosphere, while gently planting seeds of faith. In order to continue with this important work, we do need volunteers to help prepare a meal for our guests. They are not fussy and are so appreciative of every meal served. We provide a small stipend of $100.00 to cover some of the costs.
I am now looking at my schedule for 2024. Do you think you and your friends, family or small group could help prepare a meal for TSS? If so, please reach out to me, by phone 506-238-9903 or email judypaul1088@gmail.com.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you.
Blessings,
Judy Thompson
