This Week @ BSBC
1. Family Sunday: July 2
Hey folks! With the onset of summer and the long weekend, we will be keeping our family with us in the worship services this Sunday. We are giving our Preschool and KidzTown staff a chance to join us for worship. All of our children’s activities will resume next week, after our Half-Day Summer Camp has been completed.
2. Stellar Half-Day Summer Camp: July 3 – 7
Our Stellar: Shine Jesus’ Light half-day summer camp will be happening Monday, July 3rd to Friday, July 7th, from 9 am–noon! Mark your calendars and be ready for your little ones to join us.
Registration for the half-day summer camp is still open!
3. Tidal Impact Update: July 22 – 28
Our youth are looking forward to Tidal Impact and spreading the love of Jesus into the local communities and various outreach programs around Saint John. We have 10 youth and five leaders going on this mission trip. Next week, we will introduce you to our team.
Our youth and leaders will be staying at Camp Tulakadik and will be travelling to Saint John each day, which takes approximately half an hour each way. The camp will be providing food and lodging. We will need to bring our own daily necessities as well as fuel for ourselves and our vehicles.
Our youth have been getting together as a group to work on team building. The goal of the team building is to create a stronger sense of community so that we can most effectively serve our mission purposes. Our next team building event will be our car wash fundraiser on Saturday, July 8 from 9 a.m. – 1 pm.
Please pray for our youth and our leaders, and that God can use us to make an IMPACT on the Tidal City of Saint John.
4. Youth Car Wash Fundraiser: July 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On Saturday, July 8, we are having a Car Wash Fundraiser for our Tidal Impact Team. The fundraiser runs from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm in the BSBC Church Parking Lot. Please come and support our youth by getting your car washed! All are welcome and all donations are accepted!
From our church family, we are looking to borrow the following products for the carwash:
• 4 Shop vacs
• 8 x 5 Gallon Buckets
• 4 Car Wash Mitts
• Wash brushes
• Shammies
If you have any of these items and are willing to lend them to our youth team on Saturday, July 8, that would be wonderful! Please contact Pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca. If your youth would like to join our car cleaning team, please email pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca.
5. Summer Communion Service
Please note that given the long weekends the first of July and the first of August — communion will be offered on July 9 and August 13.
Communion for September will be offered on Sunday, September 3 when the gym, sanctuary and Mandarin congregations will combine as we launch the fall season of ministry.
6. Oasis: August 10 – 12, 2023
Each year, the Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada send ‘delegates’ to OASIS, the annual gathering of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. This is an annual gathering for worship, discipleship, and to consider how we share together in living out the love of Jesus “everywhere”. Give a read:
We’re excited to welcome you to Oasis on August 10-12, 2023 at Crandall University in Moncton, New Brunswick
Our CBAC family can expect a joy-filled gathering as we celebrate our shared mission and stories of God’s work in this denominational family. We’ll worship together, share updates, discuss and vote on family business, and enjoy fellowship. In addition to the main schedule of activities, we’ll be facilitating special events alongside our partner organizations, as well as fun and engaging programs for kids and youth.
This year we’re thrilled to have Jason Ballard as our guest speaker and to hear a message for our CBAC family from Dr. Terry Atkinson as well.
This year, we can send 10 delegates. To be a delegate for BSBC you must be a member of BSBC. Otherwise, you can attend OASIS as a guest – everything but vote on business. Are you interested in being one of our delegates to OASIS? We are able to provide a stipend of $200 to cover your registration and help with expenses. We have space for nine more delegates.
If you are able to attend, please contact Naomi in the church office (naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca) and she will complete your registration.
9. Summer Juice Ministry
Are you looking for a way to meet your church family and get some summer sun? Join the summer juice ministry and provide a cold drink for all after the service.
Come just a bit early to make 3-4 pitchers of iced tea, lemonade and fruit punch from frozen juice (provided). Use paper cups for convenience. Set your cart up at the corner of the kitchen entrance by 11:30ish and the family will find you!
It’s a simple cleanup to wash the pitchers, wipe the cart and bring in the trash can! In the event of wet weather, you can serve from the gym kitchen window. Feel free to buddy up with a friend!
If you would like to participate in this ministry, please contact the church office 506-458-8348 or bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca.
10. Benevolent Ministry
In a congregation like ours, there are many worthy opportunities for financial support, including our ongoing Benevolent Ministry. Running quietly behind the scenes, your Benevolent Ministry seeks to meet the practical needs of individuals within our church family and those in our broader community.
On a weekly and sometimes daily basis, requests for ‘financial bridging’ come into the church office. These requests may take many forms, such as:
Helping to bridge the gap between someone’s last grocery order and their next one due to financial constraints
Topping up of a housing rental payment that clients are unable to cover due to unforeseen circumstances
Purchasing prescriptions, the cost of which would be prohibitive otherwise
Providing a gas card so clients can get to medical appointments
Providing a Tim’s card for an immediate meal
Accessing Christian counseling
We’re so grateful for Deacon Doug McAllister, serving as our Benevolent Coordinator, who meets with those seeking help, listens and questions, seeks to bring God’s love to the situation through prayer, and connecting community folks with the many opportunities to plug into life at BSBC. We’ve been able to rejoice with Doug in interactions that have born spiritual fruit, as witnessed to the testimony of individuals.
All of this is possible because of the generosity and stewardship of our church family. Each month, people designate donations to the “Benevolent Ministry” which become a “bridge” for someone at a financially troubling time. All done in the name of Jesus. We are grateful for each gift and regularly give thanks for each giver.
If you would like to know more about your Benevolent Ministry, please reach out to us, we’d be pleased to hear from you. If you know of a need in our church family or in your circle, please contact us. If you can give, please mark your gift “Benevolent Ministry.” Finally, please pray, especially for Doug as he is both the face of Jesus and the face of BSBC.
Thank you.

11. A Message From Our Financial Secretary
When giving a donation to the church by e-transfer, please include your first and last name in the message portion to ensure that your donation is properly credited. For example, when a donation is received from “Steve,” it’s not always evident which Steve it’s from — a solitary name or nickname is insufficient. Please include both a first and last name in your message.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah VanSlyke
Financial Secretary
12. Muffin Mania: Booking for July, August & September
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.
Our schedule is now open for July, August, and September. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week, specifically July 16, July 30 as well as most of August and September. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the refrigerator in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.
13. Pastoral Care for the Next Three Months
While Pastor Greg is on sabbatical, your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for the engagement of Pastor Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, the Baptist Chaplin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital…

We are giving our Preschool and KidzTown staff a chance to join us for worship. All of our children’s activities will resume next week, after our Half-Day Summer Camp has been completed.
The gym worship service will be under the musical leadership of Greg Keezer and friends. In the sanctuary, the worship service will under the musical leadership of Gloria Tranquilla, pianist, and David Steeves, organist, featuring Laura McGuire, soloist.
This Sunday, Pastor Keith will be speaking in both services with Reflections on a National Holiday. Of this topic, he writes, “For many in our homeland, Canada Day is a whooping celebration and to be sure, we have lots to commemorate and be thankful for. Even in uncertain times of upheaval, there are still many reasons why it is better to live in this country than many other places in the world, so we do have ample reasons for gratitude. At the same time, how can TheStreet be a beacon in these times, and what can we do to strategically enhance our efforts to be “salt and light” in our community? For a few minutes this morning we will pause and explore the Scriptures in light of this particular moment on the calendar.
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
