4. Summer Communion Service
Please note that given the long weekends in July and August — communion will be offered on July 9 and August 13.
Communion for September will be offered on Sunday, September 3 when the gym, sanctuary and Mandarin congregations will combine as we launch the fall season of ministry.
5. Sports Friends: Charles Millette
Dear BSBC family,
We trust that you have welcomed this summer season with open arms, and that despite the rainier June, you are finding joy in spending more time outside, fighting off black flies and mosquitos, an activity that counts for a wonderful workout for all and one of our national sports!
Bug fighting: what a fabulous segue towards what God has called us to invest our lives into: evangelistic and disciple-making sports ministry from coast to coast! Over the next two weeks, we will use this media to inform you of some local and national news from the world of Sports Friends Canada (SF Can) to encourage you to track with us in prayer as we embark on a summer road trip to Alberta to expand the ministry into other provinces as God leads.
BSBC Flash News
Every Tuesday at Wilmot Park, you can find a group of energetic kids and teens, 6-13 years old, gathered with various of our BSBC coaches, for a 90-minute soccer session, where skills are taught and practiced, and a portion of Joseph’s story is discussed. Being intentionally located right in between the very popular splash pad and kids’ playground, allows for curious families to ask what is going on with this fun bunch, and it’s working! Indeed, on our first Tuesday, we welcomed on our team Eddie, a little guy, who was eager to make friends and kick a ball around, in our safe and relaxed environment. His parents clearly approved the teaching of Christian values! They promised to come back and include this Tuesday activity into their weekly routine, even though they live nearly 60 minutes away from the city. So far, they have held onto their promise, and we can look forward to seeing more families ask to join us.
Please pray that indeed, our presence is noticed, and that God brings to us, individuals of every faith, as we use the world’s most popular sport to build friendships and share Jesus’ love with all!
The National: Summer Road Trip
In the spring of 2021, God called Charles to initiate the ministry of Sports Friends in Canada, with the help of Bob, a SIM Canada colleague living in BC. Along the way, in between ministry pioneering trips to the Surrey/Vancouver area, many individuals have enquired about sports ministry and loads of virtual meetings and phone calls have taken place.
The time has now come to visit church and ministry leaders who have shown a real interest in wanting to make disciples of Jesus Christ through sports. Since these brothers and sisters live in Montreal, Toronto, London, Winnipeg, Lethbridge, Fort Qu’Appelle and Calgary, there is nothing like a summer road trip to sit down in person, share a meal and better understand every church or ministry vision to reach out to their neighbours through sports.
Consequently, Charles will drive out of Fredericton on Saturday July 29th, meet dozens of folks along the way, to later be met by Sarah and the kids in mid-August, who will fly into Calgary. It promises to be a long journey of many inspiring and God-filled conversations and memorable family adventures. Pray that God continues to arrange every detail of the trip and allows for safe travels.
Conclusion
If you believe that serving and equipping local churches to make disciples of Jesus through sports makes sense in today’s world and wish to financially participate in the expansion of the ministry and to the Millette summer plans, you can do so by clicking the button below or by contacting Charles by email (charles.millette@sim.org) or phone 581-232-4284.
6. Oasis: August 10 – 12, 2023
Each year, the Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada send ‘delegates’ to OASIS, the annual gathering of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. This is an annual gathering for worship, discipleship, and to consider how we share together in living out the love of Jesus “everywhere”. Give a read:
We’re excited to welcome you to Oasis on August 10-12, 2023 at Crandall University in Moncton, New Brunswick
Our CBAC family can expect a joy-filled gathering as we celebrate our shared mission and stories of God’s work in this denominational family. We’ll worship together, share updates, discuss and vote on family business, and enjoy fellowship. In addition to the main schedule of activities, we’ll be facilitating special events alongside our partner organizations, as well as fun and engaging programs for kids and youth.
This year we’re thrilled to have Jason Ballard as our guest speaker and to hear a message for our CBAC family from Dr. Terry Atkinson as well.
This year, we can send 10 delegates. To be a delegate for BSBC you must be a member of BSBC. Otherwise, you can attend OASIS as a guest – everything but vote on business. Are you interested in being one of our delegates to OASIS? We are able to provide a stipend of $200 to cover your registration and help with expenses. We have space for eight more delegates.
If you are able to attend, please contact Naomi in the church office (naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca) and she will complete your registration. The deadline for early registration is July 15, 2023.
7. A Message From Our Financial Secretary
When giving a donation to the church by e-transfer, please include your first and last name in the message portion to ensure that your donation is properly credited. For example, when a donation is received from “Steve,” it’s not always evident which Steve it’s from - a solitary name or nickname is insufficient. Please include both a first and last name in your message.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah VanSlyke
Financial Secretary
8. Summer Juice Ministry
Are you looking for a way to meet your church family and get some summer sun? Join the summer juice ministry and provide a cold drink for all after the service.
Come just a bit early to make 3-4 pitchers of iced tea, lemonade and fruit punch from frozen juice (provided). Use paper cups for convenience. Set your cart up at the corner of the kitchen entrance by 11:30ish and the family will find you!
It’s a simple cleanup to wash the pitchers, wipe the cart and bring in the trash can! In the event of wet weather, you can serve from the gym kitchen window. Feel free to buddy up with a friend!
If you would like to participate in this ministry, please contact the church office 506-458-8348 or bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca.
9. Benevolent Ministry
In a congregation like ours, there are many worthy opportunities for financial support, including our ongoing Benevolent Ministry. Running quietly behind the scenes, your Benevolent Ministry seeks to meet the practical needs of individuals within our church family and those in our broader community.
On a weekly and sometimes daily basis, requests for ‘financial bridging’ come into the church office. These requests may take many forms, such as:
Helping to bridge the gap between someone’s last grocery order and their next one due to financial constraints
Topping up of a housing rental payment that clients are unable to cover due to unforeseen circumstances
Purchasing prescriptions, the cost of which would be prohibitive otherwise
Providing a gas card so clients can get to medical appointments
Providing a Tim’s card for an immediate meal
Accessing Christian counseling
We’re so grateful for Deacon Doug McAllister, serving as our Benevolent Coordinator, who meets with those seeking help, listens and questions, seeks to bring God’s love to the situation through prayer, and connecting community folks with the many opportunities to plug into life at BSBC. We’ve been able to rejoice with Doug in interactions that have born spiritual fruit, as witnessed to the testimony of individuals.
All of this is possible because of the generosity and stewardship of our church family. Each month, people designate donations to the “Benevolent Ministry” which become a “bridge” for someone at a financially troubling time. All done in the name of Jesus. We are grateful for each gift and regularly give thanks for each giver.
If you would like to know more about your Benevolent Ministry, please reach out to us, we’d be pleased to hear from you. If you know of a need in our church family or in your circle, please contact us. If you can give, please mark your gift “Benevolent Ministry.” Finally, please pray, especially for Doug as he is both the face of Jesus and the face of BSBC.
Thank you.

10. Muffin Mania: Booking for August & September
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.
Our schedule is now open for August, and September. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week, specifically July 16, July 30 as well as most of August and September. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the refrigerator in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.
11. Pastoral Care for the Next Three Months
While Pastor Greg is on sabbatical, your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for the engagement of Pastor Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, the Baptist Chaplin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital…

14. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: July 9
This Sunday, we will be worshipping at the Lord’s Table.
The gym worship service will be under the musical leadership of Greg Keezer and friends. In the sanctuary, the worship service will under the musical leadership of Gloria Tranquilla, pianist, and David Steeves, organist, and featuring a Quartet.
This Sunday, Pastor Keith will be speaking in the gym. Of his sermon, titled “Crowds & Disciples”, he writes, “Our series in the book of Mark continues this morning with a study of two sections in 3:7-19. In the aftermath of the healing of the man with the withered hand, the next episode describes the crowds that follow Jesus, and the various places where they are from. What is the significance of these places, and what does this geographical range tell us about the kinds of people who are invited to consider the message of the Kingdom of God? The next episode in verses 13-19 is a list of the twelve disciples. While some readers might be tempted to skip over this list and continue with this fast-paced narrative, we will pause this morning and take a closer look. When we do, it will become apparent that there is a profound vision for discipleship in these verses, and a completely new way to define our lives today.”
Pastor Ross will be preaching in the sanctuary. Of his sermon titled “Could God Use Me If I Suffer with Loneliness and Insecurity – Through the Lens of Jeremiah”, Pastor Ross writes, “Jeremiah stood in obedience to God in the face of popular opinion and experienced intense feelings of sadness and loneliness as a result. I think we could argue easily that he suffered with depression and even wished he had never been born! We all experience loneliness, but how do we make sure that it is a place of transition for us and not a permanent residence.”
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
