1. Register for Fall Sunday School

Your Education Committee is looking toward the fall and Sunday School. Yet, with the two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, we have no idea how to plan. We need your help.

We’ve heard from some families that they are not planning to return to Sunday School in the fall, feeling that the church-time ministries of KidzTown and Preschool provide the spiritual engagement they need. So, as we prepare for fall 2022, we really need you — regardless of your age — to confirm whether you'll participate regularly (not necessarily every Sunday) in the ministry of Sunday School.

How your input informs fall 2022

This information is essential as we work to recruit teachers and determine potential numbers, which will inform class groupings — especially in the children’s ministry. And speaking of teachers, it would be great if you would indicate if you would be willing to explore taking a Sunday School teaching position.

You’ve heard that we live in unprecedented times? Promoting Sunday School in June is certainly an expression of this. Your participation now ensures that we're ready for the fall launch. This is not to say that if you don't register in June, you can’t attend in the fall, but we’re sure you’ll understand that your engagement now is essential for fall planning. In short, we can’t do it without you!

With thanks,
Your Education Committee

2. Green Hill Lake Camp Share-A-Wage

It’s that time of the year, time to talk about our BSBC youth serving this summer at Green Hill Lake Camp. For summer 2022, that includes Dylan Wightman and Nathan Holmes. Here’s your opportunity to get to know them!

Dylan Wightman

Hi, my name is Dylan Wightman, I have been working at camp for 3 years now and I am excited for my new position of housekeeping coordinator or “crew leader”.

This is a very new position for me, and I would appreciate prayer for the ability to go into this summer feeling ready and confident to lead and serve for the glory of God.

I can’t wait for this summer to begin and for all the kids to be on site again! And with this years amazing staff I’m sure it will be an awesome and smooth sailing summer!

Nathan Holmes

Hello! My name is Nathan Holmes. This is my 3rd year working on staff at GHLC and I will be serving as a Sr. Cabin Leader this summer.

This is my first year in this position, so I am really looking forward to everything this summer has in store for me and my campers each week. And for the opportunity to grow in my faith and help them learn about God.

About Share-A-Wage

GHLC needs a small army of excited staff every summer to make camp happen! Cabin Leaders, Life Guards, and experienced camp pros (like Dylan and Nathan) will oversee all the fun – every member of our Support Staff ensures that the Green Hill experience lives up to our top-notch reputation. These staff have experience with camp and kids, and it shows!

Many of these leaders work at GHLC, making less than they would in other summer jobs, foregoing this for the calling to serve as missionaries on the mission field at Green Hill Lake Camp. And that’s where we come in. Through the Green Hill Lake Camp SHARE-A-WAGE program, your donation can help provide additional financial support to camp staff and help position them for the post-secondary education they will begin in September.

There are two ways to give: (1) go to the camp website (https://greenhill.campbraingiving.com/) and select “Share-a-Wage” from the drop-down menu. In the donation note, be sure to say, “Thanks to Dylan and Nathan for letting me know about Share-a-Wage,” or (2) simply put your donation through the church offering and be sure to make it “Share-a-Wage.” If you mark it GHLC, your funds will not make it to the “Share-a-Wage” program. Either way, charitable giving receipts for your gift will be issued.

Thanks for considering this opportunity to invest in lives like Dylan and Nathan.

Pastor Greg

3. Children's Half-Day Summer Camp

This summer, the week of July 4 to 8, from 9 a.m. to Noon, our children will learn that God’s creativity didn’t stop in Genesis. The Master Artist is working to redeem, reclaim, and transform us — His creation — to the design, He planned for us. Our children will see the beautiful truth that they are God’s creation as they learn to use their talents to bring glory to Him.

Join our team

We hope you will prayerfully consider being a part of BSBC’s 2022 Children’s Half-Day Summer Camp team! When you complete the volunteer registration, you’ll have the opportunity to tell us where and how you’re available to serve. If you have any questions about what a particular role will look like, we’ll be happy to help explain them so you can make an informed decision about your role before committing.

Children’s Half-Day Summer Camp Theme Bible Verse: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

5. Our 2022 Grads

A big congratulations to all of our 2022 graduates! If you weren't able to join us last Sunday, click the button below to meet our grads.

6. Sunday Morning: June 19

As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him…
Psalm 103:13

We hope you’ll connect with us online or in-person this week!

On this Father’s Day Sunday, in each service, we’ll be thinking about fathers. For many, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day can be difficult days for a whole host of reasons. Therefore, we’ll largely focus on the perfect Father – our loving and grace-giving God.

In the gym, Dr. Keith will be sharing the second message in his three-part series, “Route 66”, a study in the book of Revelation. Of the second sermon, he writes: Last week as we studied the opening chapter of Revelation, but did not see what might have been expected. Instead of strange monsters or even stranger theories about the end of the world, we were instead privileged to behold a stunning vision of the risen Lord Jesus. As we recall, the author John was incarcerated on an island prison fortress, but a visitor breaks into the prison to bring him a message for seven churches in western Asia Minor, under pressure and living in the shadow of the Empire. This week we turn to those letters, where we discover a fascinating pattern: each church receives a particular challenge to improve, but also a startling promise and encouragement to persevere. For example, the first letter is addressed to the believers in Ephesus, a huge city and the ancient equivalent of New York or Toronto.

With its wide roads, optimal location, and considerable wealth, the temptation to self-sufficiency is particularly acute in Ephesus, and so this church is challenged to return to their “first love” and not grow weary. If they can overcome, there awaits a promise of the tree of life in the very paradise of God. As we read a selection of these letters, we will emphasize the themes of endurance and honor, as a crown of life awaits all those who trust the Lord and finish the race of life with faithfulness.

In the sanctuary, Pastor Ross will continue our study in Ephesians 5 as he takes us deeper into Paul’s teaching about living a life that pleases the Lord in response to all He has done for us.

This week in the gym, we have a guest worship leader – Hollie Weaver. Hollie was with us last summer, and we found blessing in her thoughtful and spiritually mature leadership. It will be great to have her back with us again.

In the sanctuary, several ‘father/child’ teams will be leading in the service. Musical leadership will include the Kennedy family, with soloist Talia Kennedy and a choral ensemble singing a medley of some of the best-loved praise and worship songs.

7. Thank You From Your Social Action Team

Thank you to all who participated in the Social Action Team's gatherings at the end of May about the Brunswick Street Baptist Church Street Level ministries. We appreciated everyone's interest and input shared during our two gatherings, as well as the comments received from others outside the meetings. Sergiy is pleased to have at least one new recruit to help out occasionally with the Sunday evening sandwich and muffin ministry, but there is definitely room for more!

Third Sunday Supper

Sunday, June 19, is Third Sunday Supper. For those who expressed interest in volunteering for a "boots on the ground" role with this ministry, this is your reminder that you are welcome to join us this Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. You can confirm you will be there by emailing Martina at adrianandmartina@gmail.com so we can plan, or if you just decide to show up that would be okay as well.

8. Socks for the Sole

Providing a clean, dry pair of socks is a simple but important way to make a difference in the quality of life of someone who is homeless.

Your Social Action Team invites you to put "feet first" by donating a pair of new socks to help our homeless neighbours feel drier and more comfortable all year. Socks of all sizes will be collected in the "Sock Box," which will be located in the Connections Centre, beginning Sunday, June 19.

Thank you!

9. Bereavement

John Stevenson, decades ago the faithful custodian of Brunswick Street Baptist Church has passed away in Saint John, NB.  John and his wife Bertie were long time members of BSBC so many of our church family have memories of the Stevensons.  Even after John and Bertie moved to Saint John, he kept in touch with me and was always interested in what was happening at BSBC and in sharing his many memories of his days here.  The last Christmas before they moved, John had cards printed with the story of the candy cane, attached a candy cane to each card and provided enough for us to give out to everyone at that year’s Hanging of the Green’s service.  Just another act of kindness.

You can find John’s obituary below.  Please be in prayer for his sons.

Pastor Greg

10. Upcoming Memorial Service

The Memorial Service for the Late Dr. Robert Burridge will be held on Thursday, June 23, 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Reception to follow. Read the obituary

11. Upcoming Pastoral Staff Vacations

Pastor Ross

Pastor Ross will start his second week of vacation on Monday, July 18 and return to ministry on Monday, July 25.

Pastor Nikki

Pastor Nikki is planning a short trip home to Ontario to spend Father’s Day weekend with family. She will be gone from June 17 to June 20. She will then enjoy a further time of vacation starting on Sunday, Aug. 14 returning to ministry on Sunday, Aug. 28

Dr. Keith

Given the parameters of his contract, Dr. Bodner will be preaching up to and including Sunday, July 10 and then will be back with us for the first Sunday in September. Pray for the Bodners as they plan summer travels to the west coast to visit with family.

Pastor Greg

Pastor Greg began a month of vacation on Monday, June 6 and will return to ministry on Monday, July 4. Then, he will have a second month of leave from Monday, July 25 returning to ministry on Monday, Aug. 22.

We are confident that the congregation will be supportive of the added time off for summer 2022. During both times off, Pastor Ross will be providing pastoral leadership/care as will Pastor Nikki, excepting her time of vacation in August. Given the newness of Pastors Nikki and Ross to BSBC, Pastor Greg will be available for funerals during times off. This has been the pattern since the beginning of the interim period. Please pray that these months of break will be renewing and invigorating for Pastor Greg.

Your Board of Deacons
