The Banner

Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

1. Join us on YouTube for this Sunday's Service (Jan. 30)

Church Family, we hope you’ll join us online for this Sunday morning.

At 10:30 a.m. THIS Sunday morning (Jan. 30) ‘tune in’ to the COMBINED SERVICE on YouTube. Just go to our website thestreetonline.ca, click on the “worship online” button and you’ll be right where you need to be.

We hope to "see you" Sunday!

2. Groups Meeting at the Church Facility: Starting Jan. 31

IF on Monday, Jan. 31 the province returns to Level 2 of the Winter Covid Plan, groups would once again be able to meet at the church providing:

  • All group members are double-vaccinated and show or have shown proof

  • All group members remain masked at all times

  • Physical-distancing is maintained between household bubbles (in almost all cases, the room you were meeting in during Level 1 will no longer suit your needs — 2 meters will require you moving to a larger space) please book these space changes with the church office at bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca

  • If your group is planning to return to in-person meeting please be sure to contact the church office so we can reengage your space reservations AND let custodial services know for daytime gatherings and security know for evening gatherings

  • Please consider foregoing food service for your group meeting until we return to Level 1

  • No singing in Level 2

Communication with the Church Office is invaluable as you return to in-person meeting. Please keep the office apprised of any changes that you are making, as the office is the central hub of booking for all groups, custodial services, security, etc.
Please consider this a courtesy to office staff who are booking other groups and to others who share the church facility. Thank you so much!

3. Anticipating Level 2: Sunday, Feb. 6 Services

If the province moves back to Level 2, as planned, then, on Sunday, Feb. 6, we’ll be back to two in-person services.

We ask for your cooperation by making reservations, as we are required in Level 2 to plan for physical-distancing AND 50% capacity. This takes some work and we’ll be grateful for your help in this way.

All other requirements remain the same: (1) proof of vaccination, (2) masks at all times, (3) physical-distancing, (4) no congregational singing, (5) one designated singer or singers (if they are from the same household bubble).

Next Wednesday the reservation system will be LIVE. We’re using a new system that should be more user-friendly.

4. Special Guest from Teen Challenge

On Sunday morning, Jan. 30, we'll welcome Nate Barbour from “TEEN CHALLENGE” to share stories of victory over addiction through faith in Christ. In past years, when teams have visited, I know many of us have been encouraged in our faith and level of trust in God. These are always powerful mornings and I encourage you to consider who you should invite to tune in.

You can learn more about “Teen Challenge” by visiting the Atlantic men’s site.

Here’s a note from Nate:

"My name is Nate Barbour and I am the Student Life Coordinator at Teen Challenge.  Although you can’t be with me in-person on Sunday morning, I’m really excited to be sharing with you what God is doing at Teen Challenge.  So, whether you’ve been familiar with Teen Challenge for years or you’ve never heard of it before, I hope you’ll tune in and join me this Sunday."

Should you wish to make a donation to support the work of Teen Challenge, please simply mark your gift “Teen Challenge” and we’ll be happy to pass it on for you. This is powerful Kingdom work, and we praise God for it.

6. This Week's Youth Events

First, I want to thank families for coming out on Friday to our Scavenger Hunt! It was such a blessing to be able to see you all, and see through the photos all the fun you had doing the scavenger hunt!

There are a couple of things led by Ross and Anna Marie Colpitts for the larger congregation but I invite and encourage our youth to come out to these events!

All of our events are happening online this week, please email nikki@bsbc.nb.ca for the Zoom link!

Youth Bible Study

Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., we will be finishing our Bible Study series led by Kari Dunfield. All are welcome, this is a series you can come into at any time and get caught up very quickly! So please do not hesitate to come out, we would love to see you!

Youth Social Time

Thursday our youth social is from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Join us for a short time where youth are welcome to come online and connect in a safe environment. Feel free to bring along, jokes, riddles, tongue twisters, or funny stories to share with the group!

Youth Group

Friday we have a youth group from 7 to 8:30 p.m.! This week we are playing some online games, like Scategories and Pictionary! All are welcome and bring a friend to join the fun!

We look forward to seeing our youth out to these events, and getting connected in the larger congregation! If you are not a youth or connected with them, please be praying for our youth and this ministry.

God bless!
Nikki Leftley

7. Updates from Your Social Action Committee

Gratitude for the Street Ministry Muffin Drive

The Social Action Team wishes to thank the many members of our congregation who generously and faithfully provide fresh-baked muffins every week for our neighbours living on the streets. We're happy to report that our goal has been met until the end of March!

Stay tuned for future opportunities to support this important outreach ministry. Please know that even with the closing of some tenting sites, we are rerouting the muffins to where they are needed most.

Wilmot Warming Centre: Volunteer Opportunity

The Social Action Team invites you to consider volunteering to help provide much-needed warmth to our homeless population given that the deep cold weather has descended upon us. Wilmot Church is partnering with several community organizations to provide an emergency warming space on the coldest weekend afternoons.

The need for a warming centre is particularly great during weekends given that many spaces typically available on weekdays are closed. Enhanced Covid-19 protocols for this season of Omicron will be in place. Anyone wishing for more information about how to support this community project may contact Susan Howey at susan.tingleyhowey@gmail.com.

8. Bereavement

Please be in prayer for the family of the Late Gerry Covey who passed away at the DECH on Tuesday, Jan. 25. It is unlikely a service will be held at this time. More details will be provided in next week’s newsletter. Thank you for praying for Gerry’s children: Heather, Stephen and Greg. Gerry was a brother-in-law to our own Marilyn Hicks.

9. Third Sunday Supper: How You Can Get Involved

There is nothing quite like a nice hot, home cooked meal, especially when you don’t have one very often!

We are making plans to have a meal prepared for each month in 2022, to be served to our less fortunate, downtown friends. All of our guests are low income, living in subsidized housing, shelters or on the street. Our monthly Third Sunday Supper, gives them an opportunity to have a nice meal, prepared by loving hands and served by loving hearts. It gives us an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a very practical way.

10. February Birthdays

A whole new group from our church family are celebrating birthdays in February. And if your name is on the calendar….happy birthday to you!

To add your name to the Birthday Calendar please email bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca. Thank you.
