1. Mark Your Calendar: Annual Meeting (Tuesday, Feb. 22)

Our Moderator, Dr. Calvin Smith, calls for the congregation to gather for The Annual Congregational Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. (Storm Date: Thursday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m.). Attendance at the meeting can be in-person or online through Zoom.

This is an important event which highlights our ministries, opportunities to serve our world and financial direction for 2022.

How to attend

Please make a reservation to attend either in-person or on Zoom. We invite you to click the button below. In order to guarantee receipt of the Zoom link, please register by Sunday, Feb. 20.

2. Annual Report Booklets Are Almost Ready

Each year we compile a booklet which includes:

  • reports from all full- and part-time staff;

  • reports from all boards, committees, teams;

  • the financial report for 2021 and the budget proposal for 2022;

  • the report of the nominating committee who have recruited volunteers to serve in all aspects of church life; and

  • membership and adherents lists.

As you can tell, it’s a big job and we’re grateful to Janet Mitchell who has brought all these individual submissions together under one cover.

The 2021 Annual Report will be available on Sunday, Feb. 13 and from the church office thereafter.

To have a printed copy mailed to you:

OR, if you would like an electronic copy of the report booklet:

3. Invitation to Refugee Sponsorship

Dear BSBC family — It has been four years since our church family actively pursued a refugee sponsorship. Your Social Action Team would like to introduce you to a family that we recommend our church sponsor to settle in Fredericton.

4. Sunday Morning: Feb. 6

This coming Sunday, you have a choice! You can attend in-person OR online. The contemporary service will be available in the gym in a return to our café setting OR on Facebook Live. The traditional service will be available in the sanctuary OR on YouTube.

Attending online?

Simply visit www.thestreetonline.ca and click the “Worship Online” button where you can choose your service. One way or another, we do hope you’ll be with us!

Sermon notes

On this Communion Sunday, Dr. Keith will be preaching in both services (but not at the same time!). His message invites us to consider 2 Samuel 12:1-6 and Luke 15:1-7. He writes: While there is much uncertainty these days, and no shortage of struggles, this might also be an opportune time for reevaluation and reassessment of our deepest priorities. In a recent book, Tim Keller writes: “Many lifelong Christian believers feel they understand the basics of the Christian faith quite well and don’t think they need a primer. Nevertheless, one of the signs that you may not grasp the unique, radical nature of the gospel is that you are certain that you do.

Sometimes longtime church members find themselves so struck and turned around by a fresh apprehension of the Christian message that they feel themselves to have been essentially ‘re-converted.’” On this Communion Sunday we will consider two passages of Scripture that provide us with some powerful perspective. First, we will hear a parable from Nathan the prophet, spoken to David after a catastrophic series of events. Second, we will hear a parable from the Lord Jesus spoken to the religious authorities about God’s passion for seeking the lost. As we celebrate our Lord’s death and resurrection, these parables will serve to prepare us to receive the bread and the cup.

In the gym, Jon and Alyse Wilton will be leading the musical worship while in the sanctuary, David Steeves, soloist Chris Graves and guitarist, Greg Keezer will be offering musical leadership.

If you are planning to attend in person, please make a reservation by clicking the button below.

5. Teen Challenge Giving

We’re grateful for last week’s special guest, Pastor Terry Branscomb, from Teen Challenge. If you have not yet had the opportunity to listen to the service, I invite you to do so. Such amazing testimonies of lives changed, freedom from addiction.

If you would like to know more about Teen Challenge’s ministry, or to donate, please visit:  www.tcatlantic.ca OR make a donation through BSBC by marking your gift “Teen Challenge." One thing we can all do is to pray for the men and women, across Canada, who are working on their sobriety, recovery and freedom through Christ.

Pastor Greg

8. Bereavement

Lorna Bayley

We offer our condolences and love to Roy and Greta Jones on the passing of their niece, Lorna Bayley, on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. In many ways, Lorna was like a daughter to Roy and Greta, and her loss is keenly felt. Lorna was also the niece of Rev. Larry and Leana Meade. Please pray for Lorna’s family in these days of loss.

Hilda Haines

Please continue to pray for Perry Haines and Kathy Trail-Haines on the passing of Perry’s mother, Hilda Haines. Her obituary begins: With sad hearts, we announce the passing of our mother Hilda May (Sharpe) Haines on January 26, 2022. However, we rejoice that her suffering is over and she has joined our father Raymond (2015) to dwell in God’s presence.

It continues, Hilda was a woman of faith and prayer - she was very passionate about her love for God, her desire to share her faith, and the love for her family. The full obituary can be found at on the York Funeral Home website. We also think of Hilda’s grandchildren and members of our church family, Kallie Haines and Zachary Haines.

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Proverbs 31:30-31

9. Congratulations

We’re celebrating with Emily Perrin-Colpitts who has recently been appointed Emerging Generations Coordinator at Grace Memorial Baptist Church. We were so grateful to Emily for her commitment to ministry with our youth, especially during the summer and in the fall of 2021.

Emily begins her new position on Monday, Feb. 7 and our loss is Grace Memorial’s gain!

Emily, don’t forget to come “home” now and then. And know that your church family are praying for you as you begin this new chapter in your ministry life.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.
You are serving the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24

Pastor Greg

10. Updates From Your Social Action Committee

Wilmot Warming Centre: Volunteer Opportunity

The Social Action Team invites you to consider volunteering to help provide much-needed warmth to our homeless population given that the deep cold weather has descended upon us. Wilmot Church is partnering with several community organizations to provide an emergency warming space on the coldest weekend afternoons.

The need for a warming centre is particularly great during weekends given that many spaces typically available on weekdays are closed. Enhanced Covid-19 protocols for this season of Omicron will be in place. Anyone wishing for more information about how to support this community project may contact Susan Howey at susan.tingleyhowey@gmail.com.
