1. Oasis & You

It’s that time of the year where we begin to invite members of our church family to considering attending as BSBC delegates, our denomination’s annual OASIS gathering, this year in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

This is what we have to say about this year's Oasis

We’re thrilled to share that Oasis 2022 will be held at Acadia University on August 11-13, 2022.

We’re also excited to announce that the price for regular registration (adults, kids, & youth) is FREE. This is supported in part by a generous grant from the Atlantic Baptist Foundation.

Our CBAC family can expect a joyous gathering—long overdue—as we celebrate our shared mission together as a denominational family.

We’ll worship together, share updates, discuss and vote on family business, and enjoy fellowship. In addition to the main schedule of activities, we’ll be facilitating special events alongside our partner organizations, as well as fun and engaging programs for Oasis Kids and Oasis Youth.

What does a BSBC delegate do at Oasis?

The focus of Oasis is on joyful worship and personally encouraging opportunities to know more about who “we” as at Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada – the family to which BSBC belongs. You’ll hear from our leadership and be encouraged by what God is doing through our family of churches in Atlantic Canada and beyond. Business meetings are kept to a minimum but you would represent our church in decision-making for our family of churches by voting on issues from our corporate financial budget for 2022-2023 to managing our corporate ministries. You’ll be our ‘voice’ at these meetings. Please note that you have to be a member of BSBC to be a delegate at Oasis.

Costs

As has been stated there is no registration cost for Oasis 2022. To help with expenses, BSBC will provide a bursary to help cover your costs. It is possible to stay on the Acadia campus for lodging. Information on housing and meals can be found on the event website.

Want to know more?

Contact Pastor Greg (greg@bsbc.nb.ca) or the church office.

We need you

It would be wonderful for you to serve in this way and act as a bridge between our denomination and BSBC. A bridge that goes both ways. We’d look forward to you sharing your experiences when you return. Thank you for prayerfully considering serving as a delegate.

Pastor Greg

2. Mission Sale Thank You from KidzTown

We come before you today to convey our sincere thanks to the Lord Jesus, our families, our leaders and the entire BSBC family for another successful Kidztown project.

When we were setting up our table to “sell” our donations during the church bbq, we could feel the scorching sun burning our skins and making the baking goods mushy. That is when one of our little ones said to me: “Tina, it’s OK, Jesus knows what He is doing!”. That little human’s faith brightened up my day and assured me that we are on the right path and that our Lord DOES know it all. We did not get sunburned, and our baking goods were the best!
We are so grateful that you took the time to attend our Mission Sale event to raise money to buy school uniforms for some Rwandan children. We had a fantastic result and raised more than $800 in donations! Your participation and support played a vital role in the success of the campaign.

The Word of the Lord says: “You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free” this is what we believe, and we work to achieve it; What seemed impossible at first became possible. Faith in God makes us believe in the incredible, see the invisible and conquer the impossible.

We have wept at the foot of the cross of Christ and lived miracles in our midst, which have been testified to and used as teachings for our children. Their faith in the Lord Jesus and this church family, allied with their determination and discipline, made all of this possible. In other words, we could not have done this without your prayers, love, and help.

We THANK YOU in Jesus’ precious name!
KidzTown Crew

3. Baptism

We rejoice with the members of our Mandarin Congregation in the Father’s Day baptism of two of their youth. Pastor Changbin Tian had the privilege of baptizing his son, Leon. The second youth (pictured here with her dad and Pastor Changbin) is Cathy Lu who is the daughter of Jeff and Summer Lu. What a day of rejoicing as these two young people gave testimony to their faith in Jesus Christ.

4. Giving Update

Our Treasurer, Ken Reimer, provides this latest update on our financial stewardship. All members of our church family are encouraged to consider what we each can do to help us reach our financial goals. Did you know that you can give through a monthly direct deposit or e-transfer in addition to cheques and cash? We would be happy to provide you with a box of dated offering envelopes if you’d like to give with cash or cheque. Please contact the church office for details. To explore the options, please visit our website's ‘giving’ section.

5. Social Action Team

The Muffin Drive Returns

Muffins are distributed every Sunday night by our Street Ministry team. We are seeking to re-stock our muffin supply with three dozen muffins for each week’s ministry.

Here are the details:

  • To avoid an over-stocking of the freezer we're looking for just 3 dozen muffins delivered to the standing freezer in the main kitchen by Sunday of each week

  • Please wrap each muffin individually in clingwrap or place it in a baggie before bringing them to the church (it’s so much easier to access the frozen muffins and more sanitary to serve them when individually wrapped)

  • Please put (1) your name, (2) the date and (3) STREET MINISTRY on the bag in which you put the wrapped muffins to bring them to the freezer

To ensure that we get a fresh supply each week, you are invited to click the link below and fill your name in by the week or weeks in which you will provide a dozen muffins. OR, for that person-to-person interaction, feel free to call the church office at 458-8348 and your information will be taken and added to the plan.

6. NextGen Events

Thank you so much to all of those who helped lead our half-day camp and to all of the youth and adults that made this camp possible! Also, thank you to the VanSlykes for having the youth over to their house for last Thursday's youth group. The youth had a great time and were very thankful to be able to come over.

If you have a high school student, or one going into high school, this will be a great time of just connection, and getting to know one another better before we jump back into the fall!

Youth Group: July 28

Next week for Thursday youth group we'll be doing a water day — if the weather permits! That would be Thursday, July 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Volunteering Opportunity

Are you tech-savvy or would you like to learn more about technology and sound? Then AV-IT team would be the place for you to volunteer! We would love for some of our young people to come to join the AV-IT team on Sunday mornings! Please email pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca for more information and to get connected!

Also, thinking forward to the fall, if there is an area that your youth, or you as a parent would like to get involved in the larger BSBC community, please reach out to me. We would love to see where you and your youth can be using your gifts and talents within the larger church body to serve God!

Please be praying for our young people as they are on summer vacation, and please be praying for the whole family!

7. Sunday Morning Worship: July 24

Continuing with missionary guests, this Sunday, July 24, we're pleased to welcome back to our pulpit Tim Bannister. Tim and Diane Bannister began their missionary work in Kenya (1987-2021) followed by work in Libera and Tanzania. Their work has focused on education and agriculture and, now living in Saint John, Tim continues to travel as an inspiration and guide to those who seek to serve Christ. He has just returned from a ministry trip to Africa. The Bannisters have been part of the BSBC family for decades and we look forward to hearing from Tim this Sunday.

In the gym, Allie Dunfield and team will be leading in worship while in the sanctuary, Gloria Tranquilla and Vivian Ni (violin) will share their gifts.

10. Upcoming Pastoral Staff Vacations

Your Board of Deacons provide the following report about the vacation/leave plans of our pastoral team:

Pastor Ross is enjoying another week of vacation and will return to the office on Monday, July 25.

Pastor Greg will begin his second month of vacation on Monday, July 25 returning to ministry on Monday, Aug. 22. Given the newness of Pastors Nikki and Ross to BSBC, Pastor Greg will be available for funerals during times off. This has been the pattern since the beginning of the interim period.

Pastor Nikki will then enjoy a further time of vacation starting on Sunday, Aug. 14 returning to ministry on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Given the parameters of his contract, Dr. Bodner preached up to Sunday, July 10 and will be back with us for the first Sunday in September. Pray for the Bodners as they plan summer travels to the west coast to visit with family.
