To support you, I invite you to the Service of Comfort and Hope when candles will be lit in memory of loved ones who are no longer present with you, on Thursday, December 19 at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary. If you feel this would be helpful for you, mark this date on your calendar and register your intention to attend. This will assist us as we prepare the names for the Memorial Honour Roll. 8.Starting Local/Going Global Christmas Project
Dear Church Family,
It’s coming up to that time of the year when we consider our ability to be a blessing to others as God blessed us with the precious gift of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. In its 23rd year, our Starting Local/Going Global Christmas Project has been a means of practical blessing in the lives of people living here in Fredericton and another place of need in the world at large. I encourage you to read the following articles which will explain the projects to you and ask you to consider what you can do to bless others in Jesus’ name.
How do you give?
Mark your gift “Starting Local” to support families in our New Life Ministry and our Third Sunday Supper guests. Mark your gift “Going Global” to support vulnerable children and their families in India through Canadian Baptist Ministries. Gifts marked “SLGG” will be divided equally between the two funds.
It’s only November, but it’s not too early to consider blessing others this Christmas.
Starting Local
Our “Starting Local” campaign supports our New Life Ministry families. This ministry provides a supportive, spiritually encouraging setting where the women who come experience the love of Jesus through our leaders, teaching, prayer and sharing.
Each Christmas, we ask these women to let us know how we can support them in providing gifts and groceries for their households’ Christmas celebration. This year, we will be following the same format as last year. The Starting Local campaign will be a financial one focused on raising the funds needed to purchase gift cards as requested by our New Life Ministry participants. Gift cards empower these families to be able to shop for some extras themselves allowing them to share in the joy of gift giving. We will wrap up our campaign on the first Sunday of Advent at the combined morning service in the sanctuary on December 1st.
We make sure that each household receives sponsorship at a level equal to the approach of the Salvation Army and Greener Village. And, in addition to supporting our New Life participants, any financial gift you designate as “Starting Local” will allow us to provide a Christmas gift to our friends who attend our Third Sunday Supper ministry and some of our street level neighbors. Many are unable to connect with families and/or friends during the Christmas season. We hope this remembrance will remind them of God’s love and our love during what can be a challenging time.
Going Global
For this year’s Going Global project, we have the opportunity of blessing a CBM ministry that changes lives through God's Love and Care. This time, we are supporting a crucial work done by Miqlat Ministries in India, aiming to support victims of human trafficking. Here's a summary of the ministry: this project focuses on prevention, rehabilitation and restoration of girls/women who are at risk, or victims of, sexual exploitation and trafficking. It focuses on the spiritual, physical, social, mental, and economic wellbeing of the women.
And most importantly, here's how it bears fruits in the life of Ale, one of the women whose life is being made new:
Ale got married when she was about 17 years old. She has two children. After her husband died in an accident and gradually she went into depression. Alcohol became her coping mechanism, and she became addicted. Her life took a very bad turn when she was chased out by her in-laws from their home. She got separated from her children. The Ministry met her through the Outreach program. She used to be a bar girl in one of the bars. But her health deteriorated, so much so that the bar owner approached the Ministry for help.
Ale says she has never thought that she would be learning how to sew or use a machine, but she is very delighted that she could learn. She had several health issues and so only after several months of being under rehabilitation, care and support, and medical assistance, she was able to regain her health and could join the training. During her stay at Miqlat, the Ministry also reconnected her with her children with whom the relationship was estranged. She became emotional when she saw her children. She is a hardworking and cheerful person. She also shared her life testimony in one of the local Churches. She continues to read the Bible diligently.
Thanks for reading and asking God how to best come alongside women such as Ale!
Warm regards,
Elaine, Jane Ann, Josie, Joel, Rosa and Charles

12. Days For Girls Fundraiser
Twice a month on a Thursday morning, volunteers from the “New Brunswick Days For Girls” team gather at Brunswick Street Baptist Church. We make lovely, high-quality, washable, reusable, feminine hygiene kits.
Days For Girls (DFG) is an award winning, international nonprofit organization that helps girls stay in school and retain dignity, giving back important days of their lives. Many girls in developing countries miss school during their periods because they do not have what they need to manage their periods; many eventually drop out. With Days For Girls kits, girls and women are provided with access to sustainable feminine hygiene products, designed to last for 3-5 years, as well as valuable menstrual health education. Days For Girls International was founded in 2010, and to date over three million kits have been created and distributed to girls and women around the world.
Our New Brunswick team was established in 2021, and in 2022 we were welcomed by Brunswick Street Baptist Church where we were provided with a beautiful, bright space to gather and have our workdays. We typically have 10 to 12 volunteers arrive for each workday. We spend the day cutting fabric, pinning, sewing, serging, and eventually assembling kits. This month we will have completed 852 kits since we formed our group three years ago. We are so appreciative of the welcoming space at BSBC which allows us to do this important work. We welcome visitors to drop in and see what we do, see a sample kit, and of course we always welcome new volunteers to our team.
It is estimated that each kit involves 4 hours of volunteer time to sew and construct. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers on our New Brunswick team! The team now has 30 volunteers. Most of us meet biweekly at BSBC for workdays, and we also have several volunteers who complete tasks at home. We offer a BIG thank you to Shirley Dunfield for matching the ribbon to the bags and doing such a great job! We have 3 volunteers who live in Nova Scotia who contribute to our work, and even travel on occasion to join us for a workday!
Kit assembly days are special, as everything comes together for the final product. When the kits are ready, we contact the DfG distribution coordinator for Canada to determine where they will be sent and arrange for shipping. This past year, our kits were sent to Burundi, to Gaza, and we were able to distribute kits locally as well.
In February, we will be participating in a distribution in Honduras, with an order for 300 kits!
In order to purchase the materials and supplies to make the kits, we raise our own funds. Donations are gratefully accepted, and tax receipts are available. Would you like to sponsor a NB team DfG kit in the name of someone on your Christmas gift list? The cost to sponsor one kit is $20. Each $20 donation provides a kit to a girl or woman in need, and you receive a special “Their Gift is Your Gift” postcard which you can give to the person on your list. The person on your list receives a postcard telling them that a girl has received a complete menstrual kit which will change her life for three years. These special cards can be used any time of the year.
If you or someone you know would like to sponsor a beautiful DfG kit, Janet has them available in the church office. If you are interested in volunteering, with or without sewing skills, please contact Liz or Julie by email at newbrunswick@daysforgirls.org . You can email or drop in to see us on Thursday, Nov 28, for more information.
13. Social Action Team Request
A member of our Benevolent Ministry needs a single bed for her grandson. If you can help in this way, please contact Shirley Craft from the Social Action Team.
14. Refugee Update
Since our last update in late September, the BSBC refugee fund has continued to grow. As of mid November, our fund stands at $25,492.44, up from $4,500 from the September update. THANK-YOU! This shows great progress in the past couple of months towards our goal of being able to support this family of six for one year after their immigration to Canada is approved and they arrive in Fredericton.
To support this family for their first year in Canada, we estimated that we will need approximately $45,000, though we recognize that the costs to support a family continue to rise and they are not yet approved to come to Canada. The refugee fund grows through designated donations from our congregation. You can contribute by specifying "Refugee Fund" on your offering envelope or in the comment line of your e-Transfer.
We still have a significant way to go to reach our goal, and we hope to see the paperwork approved soon so this family can begin their new life in Fredericton. Once approved, we will likely receive less than a month's notice of their arrival. Please consider setting up a regular donation to the BSBC refugee fund to help us reach our target.
Due to privacy concerns, the family has requested that their names not be shared publicly, but feel free to have a chat with me if you want to be able to pray for them by name. This family, originally from Syria, is currently living as refugees in Lebanon. We connected with them through relatives here in Fredericton, who were befriended by Rachel Nesbitt, a former member of our congregation.
As everyone has heard on the news, particularly recently, life in the Middle East is volatile and dangerous for many, refugees being amongst those in the least stable situations due to their lack of status in the countries they are in. The family we have applied to sponsor was displaced in early October from the South Lebanon village where they had been living. Rachel helped them find temporary shelter in a ministry centre in North Lebanon through contact with an organization called Horizons International. After rest and a few days of relative stability there, the family was able to find their own accommodations in another village. Rachel remains in contact with the family and with representatives of Horizons International who have been a continued source of support.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me for more information.
Thank you for your continued support!

Muffin Ministry: Booking for January 2025
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and your Social Action Team, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our faithful ‘muffin makers’ for serving in this meaningful way.
December is booked and we are looking for January 2025, and we are in need of 3 dozen muffins each week. Please package 12 individually wrapped muffins in a large, zip-locked bag labeled “Street Ministry.” Be sure to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. The labeled muffins can be placed in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
To sign up, click the link below or call the church office at 506-458-8348, and our admin team will be happy to assist with the online registration. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in His name, and we believe that muffins serve as a wonderful way to bless others in His honor.
17. Study on Pastoral Care
The purpose of this notice is to determine the interest among church participants in attending a study on Pastoral Care, which will take place during the winter months. If you are interested, please phone Janet at the church office (506-458-8348) and indicate your interest. A summary of study topics follows.
Study on Pastoral Care
Christians are called to be godly helpers and provide care and meet the needs of fellow believers. To provide spiritual and emotional support, helpers need knowledge and skills to develop quality helping relationships, which promote healing and wholeness.
This study will focus on two broad topics: Understanding Pastoral Care and Developing Helping Relationships. Topics under Pastoral Care include the following: the definition of pastoral care, its biblical and theological basis, and its aims, objectives, and goals. Under Helping Relationships, the topics include the following: the meaning of helping, motivation and why people behave the way they do, developing empathy and trust, interviewing skills, spiritual formation and using Scripture and prayer in providing care.
This study is open to anyone who is interested in this topic.
Warmly,
Dr. John Stewart

Dr. Bodner will be preaching in the sanctuary, of his sermon he writes, “Most of us have heard of the “Advent Season,” but what exactly does it mean, and how might this aspect of the historic Church calendar actually change our celebration of Christmas this year? In a rare and highly anticipated interview with Pastor Ross, we will explore several important topics, ranging from the theme of “waiting” all the way to the idea of “holy disruption.” With a number of practical applications and discussion of key biblical texts, our goal is to encourage everyone to make more space for the Lord this season and notice a massive difference in how we understand the reality of Advent.”
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.
