3.Starting Local/Going Global Christmas Project
Dear Church Family,
It’s coming up to that time of the year when we consider our ability to be a blessing to others as God blessed us with the precious gift of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. In its 23rd year, our Starting Local/Going Global Christmas Project has been a means of practical blessing in the lives of people living here in Fredericton and another place of need in the world at large. I encourage you to read the following articles which will explain the projects to you and ask you to consider what you can do to bless others in Jesus’ name.
How do you give?
Mark your gift “Starting Local” to support families in our New Life Ministry and our Third Sunday Supper guests. Mark your gift “Going Global” to support vulnerable children and their families in India through Canadian Baptist Ministries. Gifts marked “SLGG” will be divided equally between the two funds.
It’s only November 14, but it’s not too early to consider blessing others this Christmas.
Starting Local
Our “Starting Local” campaign supports our New Life Ministry families. This ministry provides a supportive, spiritually encouraging setting where the women who come experience the love of Jesus through our leaders, teaching, prayer and sharing.
Each Christmas, we ask these women to let us know how we can support them in providing gifts and groceries for their households’ Christmas celebration. This year, we will be following the same format as last year. The Starting Local campaign will be a financial one focused on raising the funds needed to purchase gift cards as requested by our New Life Ministry participants. Gift cards empower these families to be able to shop for some extras themselves allowing them to share in the joy of gift giving. We will wrap up our campaign on the first Sunday of Advent at the combined morning service in the sanctuary on December 1st.
We make sure that each household receives sponsorship at a level equal to the approach of the Salvation Army and Greener Village. And, in addition to supporting our New Life participants, any financial gift you designate as “Starting Local” will allow us to provide a Christmas gift to our friends who attend our Third Sunday Supper ministry and some of our street level neighbors. Many are unable to connect with families and/or friends during the Christmas season. We hope this remembrance will remind them of God’s love and our love during what can be a challenging time.
Going Global
For this year’s Going Global project, we have the opportunity of blessing a CBM ministry that changes lives through God's Love and Care. This time, we are supporting a crucial work done by Miqlat Ministries in India, aiming to support victims of human trafficking. Here's a summary of the ministry: this project focuses on prevention, rehabilitation and restoration of girls/women who are at risk, or victims of, sexual exploitation and trafficking. It focuses on the spiritual, physical, social, mental, and economic wellbeing of the women.
And most importantly, here's how it bears fruits in the life of Ale, one of the women whose life is being made new:
Ale got married when she was about 17 years old. She has two children. After her husband died in an accident and gradually she went into depression. Alcohol became her coping mechanism, and she became addicted. Her life took a very bad turn when she was chased out by her in-laws from their home. She got separated from her children. The Ministry met her through the Outreach program. She used to be a bar girl in one of the bars. But her health deteriorated, so much so that the bar owner approached the Ministry for help.
Ale says she has never thought that she would be learning how to sew or use a machine, but she is very delighted that she could learn. She had several health issues and so only after several months of being under rehabilitation, care and support, and medical assistance, she was able to regain her health and could join the training. During her stay at Miqlat, the Ministry also reconnected her with her children with whom the relationship was estranged. She became emotional when she saw her children. She is a hardworking and cheerful person. She also shared her life testimony in one of the local Churches. She continues to read the Bible diligently.
Thanks for reading and asking God how to best come alongside women such as Ale!
Warm regards,
Elaine, Jane Ann, Josie, Joel, Rosa and Charles
4.Children’s Check-In System Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Beginning Sunday, November 10, we will be updating our children's Check-In system each Sunday for the next few weeks. To ensure a smooth transition, please stop by the Connections Center as early as 9:30 a.m. if your child attends Sunday School, Preschool, or KidzTown programming. Pastor Nikki and our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Sam, will be available to assist you.
Our goal is to create a more streamlined Check-In and Check-Out experience for everyone. Once this process is complete, we’re excited to have a faster, easier system in place each Sunday!
If you’re interested in joining our Check-In team to help make this possible, please reach out to Mary Tingley. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work to improve this process for our families!
5.Christmas Poinsettias
This Christmas season, we invite you to help us adorn our worship spaces by placing a poinsettia in honor or memory of someone special. Poinsettias will be arranged in the sanctuary and in the Gym starting the first Sunday in December, adding beauty and warmth throughout the holiday season.
Each poinsettia is $15. To order, simply pick up a “Christmas Poinsettias” envelope at the Connections Center and complete all required information to ensure your donation is properly designated. We will recognize all donated plants in the Sunday Loop on December 22 and in the newsletter on Thursday, December 19.
For further details, please contact the church office at bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca.

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and your Social Action Team, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our faithful ‘muffin makers’ for serving in this meaningful way.
Our schedule is now open for December 2024 and January 2025, and we are in need of 3 dozen muffins each week. Please package 12 individually wrapped muffins in a large, zip-locked bag labeled “Street Ministry.” Be sure to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. The labeled muffins can be placed in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
To sign up, click the link below or call the church office at 506-458-8348, and our admin team will be happy to assist with the online registration. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in His name, and we believe that muffins serve as a wonderful way to bless others in His honor.

15. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: November 17
In the Gym, worship team will be led by Sarah Hoyt and Mark McAllister. In the Sanctuary, the worship team will be led by Gloria Tranquilla and David Steeves with special music from the Sanctuary Choir and Peter & Maurine Steeves.
This Sunday, Dr. Keith Bodner will be preaching in both services. Of his sermon titled Salt and Light, he writes “During our last study of the Sermon on the Mount we reflected on the opening prologue, with magisterial declarations such as blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. We emphasized that while such declarations have a future component, there are very much for the present moment, and are intended to be the defining reality of our lives. Similarly, the kingdom of heaven is not earned, it is a divine gift that is given: long before the Lord Jesus asks us to do anything, he has already given us everything. This week we continue to hear the words of this Mountaintop Sermon and consider the meaning of two decisive metaphors: salt as an agent of transformation, and light that dispels darkness and illuminates every human journey.”
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.
