1. ANXIETY: A Spiritual Response
What: Bible Study on the topic of Anxiety. Video from www.RightNowMedia.org and material from Jonathan Pokluda.
Why: In this difficult time of anxiety in our world with COVID-19 and everything else that is going on in our lives, we are looking for hope and encouragement. “Anxiety is inescapable in today’s world. When stress overpowers us and fear infects our minds, it can feel like the peace the Bible talks about is impossible to find. And no amount of pretending, overworking, or isolating ourselves will offer us the peace we need.
Pastor Jonathan Pokluda explores how Christians can face anxiety head-on. With real-life stories from people facing various kinds of anxiety, this series helps us see that peace can be found on this side of eternity.”
Who: This Bible study is free. Everyone who would like to attend this Bible Study may register with Jason (Xinkai Zhou) at xinkaixk.zhou@gmail.com. You do not need to be a member of BSBC to attend this Bible Study.
When: Every Wednesday evening: Starting September 23 and finishing October 14, 2020, from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.
How: The Bible Study is held through the RightNowMedia online platform (similar to a Zoom or Team Meeting platform) with BSBC. Contact Jason at xinkaixk.zhou@gmail.com for information and for attendance. He will provide information regarding your registration and connection through the online platform.
Daniel Savard will facilitate the discussion during the Bible Study periods. For more information on the content of the Bible study see description below. If needed, feel free to contact Daniel at timberwolfe57@live.ca .

Weekly Bible Study in the Book of John
Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 6 you can join Pastor Steve in a chapter by chapter study in the gospel of John. AND, you can do this online (via Zoom) or in-person (gathering in the gym) at 7 p.m. The book of John is considered a masterpiece, the story of Christ’s life and teachings with the implications continuing to impact lives of Christians today. If you can take part please click below to get your registration in and Pastor Steve will be in contact the week before the study begins with all the details you’ll need.
Weekly Discussion/Prayer time
Our “Micah 6:8 Nights” will see Pastor Greg leading a discussion/study of Scriptures that speak to how we ‘do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God’ as we seek to offer our God lives that honour him. After considering His word, we’ll take time to pray together in light of the Spirit’s work in our lives and for the needs of our church, our community, our nation and beyond. “Micah 6:8 Nights” will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the sanctuary. You can take part online or in-person. Please click below and register and Pastor Greg will be in touch with you the week before “Micah 6:8 Nights” begin.
“It’s As Easy As Living” Evangelism Think Tanks
Starting in October, Pastor Charles invites you to join him every 6 weeks for an online or in-person “think thank” on personal evangelism we’re calling “It’s As Easy As Living” – seeking to be intentional with our lives to introduce our Forever Friend, Jesus, to those we know. Click below to register for what we expect to be Thursday night offerings and Pastor Charles will be in touch with you to share the schedule and topics.
5. In-Person Services
Well, I’m happy to report that this past Sunday’s first “in person” services went very well. There were 50 worshippers in the gym and 75 worshippers in the sanctuary and we still have room.
Don’t forget to register
Thank you for registering in advance by clicking on the tab below to make your reservation for either the gym or sanctuary for this coming Sunday. It’s really helpful if you could do that before 5 p.m. on Fridays. Otherwise, just show up on Sunday morning and we’ll do our best to work you in.
This Sunday
This Sunday, Oct. 20, for our in-person services, Dr. Keith will share another instalment of our series, ACTS: 30 Years That Changed the World with a focus on Act 16:25-39. Of this sermon he writes: When Paul and Silas are imprisoned in Philippi, it raises the question: is it possible for the gospel to be confined? Contemporary worship in the gym will be led by Jon & Alyse Wilton and the traditional worship service will be musically led by Pascale Beaulieu, David Steeves, Gloria Tranquilla, Yvonne Kershaw and one of our new vocal ensembles.
Pastor Greg
6. Online Services Continue Each Week
Our church family can continue to attend “online worship services” each week by visiting our website or searching us out on Youtube. Now that we have in-person services on Sunday mornings these are being recorded, processed and posted the following Monday morning. SO, the live service that was recorded on Sunday, Sept. 13, was posted on Monday, Sept. 14 and will be up until Monday, September 21 when the service recorded on Sunday, Sept. 20 will replace it. Confused? How about this? Services are now recorded on Sundays and posted the following Monday and will be available until the next Monday. In short, there’s always a service available week by week. Thanks to our tech crew who work so hard to make this all happen.
The recording now available includes Dr. Keith’s sermon which has us return to the book of Acts, chapter 16. Of this message, he writes, After some frustrations and an unexpected vision, the journey of the gospel ventures toward the great cities of Europe. A guest contemporary worship team headed by Michaiah Gosman offer praise and worship. Traditional worship is led by song leader, Margaret Geldart, with hymns accompanied by David Steeves. A special musical offering is provided by one of our new vocal ensembles. The children’s time presented by Yewande Akalusi.
7. Please Use Our Online Suggestion Box
As I “suggested” in my sermon earlier this month, your leadership covet your use of our online Suggestion Box! While you are free to suggest anything that you believe will enrich our life together, we are especially interested in suggestions for how your church family can meet YOUR needs in this time of pandemic? How can we serve you? How can we meet your spiritual needs? And then, what needs can we, as a church family, meet in our community; how can we be the hands and feet of Christ in these days? AND, anything else you’d like to “suggest” that you believe will help us connect with our loving God, our community and each other.
Simply click on the image above and you’ll be taken to a form you can fill in and submit directly to my inbox. You can provide your contact information or remain anonymous.
Put on your thinking cap. We are better together so make this investment in our life as the Body of Christ at Brunswick Street Baptist Church.
Pastor Greg
8. “The Fall is Here” Infomercial
If you didn’t tune in on Sunday morning, September 13, we invite you to take 50 minutes and enjoy this video “infomercial” about our fall offerings for all ages. BUT, before the game show begins…you’ll hear from our youth who served this summer as workers at Green Hill Lake Camp. Please enjoy this video “orientation” to fall at BSBC!
9. Return to the Book of Acts
A big thank you
Over the summer months there have been lots of unsung heroes who have lent a hand and helped keep our production rolling. But without our “faithful folks” tuning in and supporting our shared ministry these days, not much could have happened, and please accept a sincere “shout out” and word of thanks to everyone who watched and participated in our online efforts.
On behalf of the leadership team, we would also like to express appreciation for the interest in our “Summer Shorts” series, and the chance to explore some of the less-frequented terrain in God’s Word. It was worthwhile, for instance, to study the book of Esther where there is no outright mention of the divine name, or to hear the words of disappointment and promise in the story of Ruth. The volume of emails and unique visits to our website strongly suggest that all sorts of other people were part of our worship experience, and so the influence of TheStreet is extending even in these very strange circumstances.
Acts: 30 Years that Changed the World
With the Fall season upon us, we are now poised to continue our series in Acts—Thirty Years that Changed the World—and we are confident that the fifth book of the New Testament will provide with ample inspiration for living effectively and sharing our faith with our neighbours. There has been no shortage of excitement so far in our study, with the dramatic outpouring of the Holy Spirit, powerful calls to repentance and to embrace new life in the risen Lord Jesus, prison breaks, chariot chasing, Gentile conversions, the demise of Herod the hoarder, and the first missionary tours in the Roman Empire. And there is plenty more to come in this next instalment of the series, ranging from more imprisonment and dialogue with the leading intellectuals of ancient world, to the “trial of the century and shipwrecks on the journey to the Imperial City itself.
We are grateful for the opportunity to think carefully about how the gospel transforms lives and affects so many different audiences in the second half of Acts, and calls each of us to renewed commitment and energy in these times. Thanks in advance for working together and encouraging others to join us (as they see fit) or to make it a priority to tune in to our broadcasts as we seek to be a humble and influential church for a world in need of good news!
Dr. Keith
Our focus for this week is on Acts 16: 6-24. Entitled, “Reaching Europe,” we see that after some frustrations and an unexpected vision, the journey of the gospel ventures toward the great cities of Europe.
