1. The Contemporary Service on Facebook Live
We're taking a step forward for our online presence…this Sunday, Oct. 25, we’ll ‘test drive’ putting the Contemporary Service on Facebook – LIVE!
What this means for you
That’s right! After this coming Sunday, we won't be producing a pre-recorded contemporary service. Instead, those who find blessing in our contemporary service can go to our Facebook page Sundays at 10:30 a.m. to engage in worship in real-time.
Facebook Live gives you the opportunity to engage in discussion with our online host and others watching online. By typing in your greetings, questions, comments, affirmations, you’ll be able to have online fellowship! We’re really excited about this offering and grateful to Deacon Mark McAllister and team for helping us make this offering a reality.
How to engage
Please note, you don’t have to have a personal Facebook account to engage. This is just like visiting another website – you won’t be signed up for Facebook by watching our Facebook Live service. And, if you miss the live stream, you can visit our Facebook page OR visit www.thestreetonline.ca Monday morning to watch the recording.
We want to hear from you
PLEASE tune in this Sunday (Oct. 25) for the test run and send us your comments so that we can refine our feed. Your user opinions and suggestions will help make this a more engaging ministry for others who we hope will tune in!
As far as the Traditional Service is concerned, we’ll continue recording the Sunday morning live service one Sunday and put it up the next Sunday as has been the case.
Exciting times,
Pastor Greg
2. Ministry Opportunity: Evening Security Needed
Evening Ministry at Brunswick Street depends on volunteers to meet safety and insurance requirements.
Can you help?
Your Security Team is in need of three volunteers beginning January 2021 to help provide Security duty one weekday evening a month.
Main duties include:
Picking up church keys from the Office before 5 p.m.
Being at the church from 6 to 9 p.m.
Greeting people as they arrive for any evening activity and guiding them to meeting rooms as required
Performing the nightly walkabout checks of doors and lights and signing the Security log book
Training is provided and it's a great way to serve our Church Family and meet new faces! Both men and women are welcome. If you can help in this way, please contact Ralph Graves at sgraves@nb.sympatico.ca or 459-8407.
3. Praying For Those Experiencing the Loss of Loved Ones
Freda Anderson
On Tuesday, October 13, BSBC lost its second oldest member, Freda Anderson, 101 years of age. Freda has been an inspiration to many with her engagement in life and her love of people. She had been a long time member of our “Quilters for Missions.” Freda was an assessment clerk with the province of Ontario for many years prior to her retirement and was a longstanding member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church. Freda and Earle enjoyed many happy winters as Snowbirds in Florida. She was at her happiest when helping and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Please pray for Freda’s sons and daughters-in-law: our own Al and Anna, and Roger & Giselle and their families. Pastor Greg conducted the committal service on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Margaret McKim
Also, on Tuesday, October 13, Peter and Sarah Duguid experienced the loss of Sarah’s mother, Margaret McKim. Margaret was living at Shannex – Embassy Hall in Saint John. Margaret is remembered by her family as having kept an immaculate home and for preparing delicious meals. She was an avid square dancer, knitter, and bridge player. One of her favourite activities was her annual trips to Florida, going to the beach and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico. Church and faith were of utmost importance. Most especially she adored her five grandchildren. Please remember Sarah and Peter, Alexander, James and Catherine and Sarah’s sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Marc d’Entremont of Saint John and their children Nicholas and Victoria. Pastor Greg conducted the committal service on Monday, Oct. 19.
Paul and Marjorie Rouse
A combined funeral service for Paul and Marjorie Rouse will be held at BSBC on Friday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. (reservations required through McAdam’s Funeral Home). Paul and Marjorie were long time members of BSBC, Paul’s first visit to the church when he was carried over the threshold as an infant. Both Paul and Marjorie were involved in the life of our church family. Marjorie died on April 3 of this year with Paul following her in to eternity on May 7, 2020. As their children, Michael (Kirsten) of St. Andrews, David (Deborah) of Fredericton, Carol of Grand Cayman, Nancy of Fredericton, prepare for the service and committal please pray for their comfort and for a wonderful celebration of two dedicated lives. Pastor Greg will officiate the combined service.
Worship leaders
Giselle Tranquilla is our contemporary guest worship leader and traditional worship is led by the Joy Trio, accompanied by Leah Steeves with David Steeves at the organ. Pastor Charles leads in prayer and Pastor Greg and “Mikey” provide the children’s time.
5. In-Person Services: Sunday, Oct. 25
Since Moncton has moved back to the Yellow Phase of COVID-19 recovery, Dr. Keith will be able to come and preach in both services. His text is taken from Acts 16. Of this passage he writes:
After some frustrations and an unexpected vision, the journey of the gospel ventures toward the great cities of Europe.
Musical worship in the gym will be led by Jon Wilton and in the sanctuary by a vocal ensemble accompanied by Gloria Tranquilla, David Steeves at the organ and a thoughtful piano duet, “The Old Rugged Cross” offered by two of our youth – Rebekah Keirstead and Alexandra Dunfield.
If you are able, we hope you will join us.

7. Financial Update for September
Financial Giving Update, Jan. 1 to Sept. 30
Current Yr Prev Year Budget
General $621,735 $640,449 $694,129
Building $85,905 $93,333 $101,250
Usually the return to fall programming sees a renewed amount of giving, but we are not seeing that fall increase yet. Please consider how you can help as we look to support the fall ministries at BSBC.
Please note that since our expenditures have been low, we are still operating with a surplus, despite the giving being lower than target.
