1. An Encouraging Testimony About the Power of Prayer

Greetings, Church!

This week I received the following email from Harriett McNeill. She gave her permission to share it with you. Be encouraged!

Dear Pastor Greg,

I am in Austin, Texas and have been here for 3 weeks.

This may seem unimportant to most people, however on my trip down I travelled on Air Canada and due to some things my flight to Toronto on my way to Austin were held up and I was late getting off the plane from Fredericton. Due to the distance to the gate for USA I basically had to run to catch my flight to Austin.

When going through the last security place I had several items, and some got mixed in with someone else. I did not notice that I was missing my computer and phone until I was ready to board. At that time, they sent me to customer service who said there was nothing they could do. I would have to report it when I got to Austin.

Since I had nothing to eat or drink when I got on the plane a girl across from me gave me a bottle of water and I mentioned to the girl beside me that I would be unable to contact my son in Austin to arrange pick up. She kindly texted him on her I phone and said she was with his mother, that I was missing my phone and computer. He immediately thought it was a scam and that she was looking for money. The story goes on. I finally arrived in Austin and contacted Air Canada who looked for a week and said they would keep the items “in mind” for 30 days and of course it would be over 30 days until I got back to Canada.

I thought to myself that God comes to our rescue not only in the big things but the small things as well. I prayed every day and on the 3rd day, my son, Kris telephoned me from Fredericton and said he and his boss were travelling to Toronto on business and would be there for a week. He said, “Mom you don't need to worry anymore I will be at the airport at 10:00AM Monday AM and I will look for your things.”

Sure enough, GOD was in charge and Kris went to lost and found and located my phone and computer.

There were 40 computers and mine didn’t have my name on it, but, he found both of them!

I thank God that He is always available to us. If we just ask in his name He will hear our prayers.

I thank my God for all the times He has come to my rescue. Amen.

God Bless, Harriett

2. Advent Craft Afternoon: Register For Your Craft

Advent Craft Afternoon will be on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. We’ll gather to craft and to enjoy supper and a treat. This is an event for elementary children through to senior adults. We'll have activities for preschoolers at the same time. We’re going to have pizza for supper and hope you’ll bring some sweet treats that can be eaten without forks.

Want to come and watch? The Family Room will be open for non-crafters to gather, and you’re welcome to wander around and see what’s going on. We’ll get you for supper! Please click the link below to register and let us know how many slices of pizza we should plan on for your party.

Now, about the crafts…click the link below to see what's in store and register (some crafts have limited supplies). This Sunday, Nov. 13, we’ll have a display in the Connections Centre and you can sign up there, as well.

OK, go ‘shopping,’ and we’ll see you in the gym on Dec. 3!

Pastor Greg

3. Women's Mission Group Monthly Meetings

Our women’s mission group will have its monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the Family Room. The meeting will be led by Adra Trail, with special guest speaker, Laura Bonney from Sussex, who spent 28 years as a missionary in the Philippines. If you’ve never come before – why not this month? You’d be most welcome!

4. Senior's Luncheon Returns

That’s right! It seems our great team of volunteers are bored and want to serve you a delicious lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at noon in the gym. Come have a wonderful meal, including chicken pot pie, biscuits and bread pudding, and some great fellowship with a few small changes:

  • We are asking that you use the link below to make your reservation for the luncheon OR call the church office (458-8348) to do the same.

  • We are asking for reservations to be in by Friday morning, Nov. 18.

  • We will be using card tables for seating so there will be seating for groups of four or as needed. When you register, you’ll indicate who you will be sitting with.

  • We suggest you come with a donation of $5 to cover the cost of the meal.

Thanks to our Luncheon Volunteers and Chef Willie Waye for hosting the event. We’re planning another for Saturday, Dec. 10…you know…a special Christmas “do”.

We hope you’ll come. Go ahead and make your reservation today!

Pastor Greg

5. Christmas Choir

Greetings!

A special Combined Church Christmas Choir is being formed to sing Sunday Evening, Dec. 4, at the Combined Celebration of "Starting Local / Going Global" (Hanging of the Greens Service). This service is always a unified beginning to our Church Christmas Celebrations as we decorate our Church Sanctuary and present gifts to projects at home and abroad.

This year we would like to incorporate some special music representing all five of our congregations that gather on Sundays for worship: Sanctuary, Gym, Greenhouse, Kidztown and Mandarin. This is an open invitation. Would you and some of your family members consider joining us as well as inviting others who enjoy singing? This is an opportunity for us to present several Christmas selections in a multi-generational group and I encourage those who have never been in a choir before to come and give it a try.

Three selections are being prepared. One for ladies, one for men and one combined.
Ladies - WERE YOU THERE ON THAT CHRISTMAS NIGHT? - N. SLEETH
Men- WISEMEN TRAVEL ON TO BETHLEHEM TOWN - H.DECOU
Combined - RING THE BELLS! V. MACKENZIE

Rehearsals

Rehearsals will be for four Wednesdays - Nov. 9, 16, 23, 30 in the Church Choir Room.
8:00 pm  Ladies
8:15 pm  Everyone, Men and Ladies
8:30 pm  Men

Finished at 8:45pm

For anyone who wishes I will offer added or alternate rehearsal time on Sunday mornings following the morning service in the choir room starting Nov. 6, and continuing on the 13, 20 and 27.

Please consider joining me and inviting others to join in this music ministry opportunity as we worship and celebrate the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Please use the link below to let me know you’ll take part or share your questions.

Looking forward to seeing you at the first rehearsal!

Sincerely,
David Steeves
Choir Director

6. Faith-Full-Friends: Joy 96.5 FM

A note from our church family member, Josh Sherrill:

For the last two years, I've had the blessing of being able to serve on the board of Joy 96.5 FM, our local, listener-supported Christian radio station. It is amazing to see how Christ is working through the air-waves, reaching people in our community and throughout the world.

I'm excited to tell you about "Faith-Full Friends" week November 14-18 on Joy 96.5. This will be a week of chatting with pastors and lay people in our community to help bring together local Fredericton area churches with the ministry of Chrisitan radio. We've got a special situation to have a local Christian station and lots of active congregations doing God's work in the Fredericton area.

BSBC's own Pastor Ross will be on-air, talking about all the great things happening at BSBC and how the Lord is working in our community. Tune-In to 96.5 FM to hear Pastor Ross, great Christian music, and conversations with others in ministries around the Fredericton area.

Josh Sherrill

7. Nametag November

I named my dog 5-Miles so now I tell people I walk 5-Miles every day.

I asked my grandpa: “After 65 years you still call grandma darling, beautiful and honey. What’s the secret?” Grandpa responded: “I forgot her name five years ago and I’m scared to ask her.".

I used to date a girl named Ruth, but she broke up with me and now I am Ruthless.

What did the lawyer name his daughter? Sue.

OK, enough!  I hope those brought some smiles.

On Sunday mornings we’re a large group of people — over 300 people each Sunday over the last few weeks — so it can be hard to remember the names of the people you see each week. Introducing:  NAMETAG NOVEMBER.

Yup, for the month of November we’re asking everyone to sport a nametag each Sunday. Let’s take a month and try to nail down a few names of the people around us. Your Deacons and pastors are grateful for your participation.

Thanks,
Pastor Greg

8. Starting Local / Going Global

Dear Church Family,

It’s coming up to that time of the year when we consider our ability to be a blessing to others as God blessed us with the precious gift of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. In its 21st year, our Starting Local/Going Global Christmas Project has been a means of practical blessing in the lives of people living here in Fredericton and some place of need in the world at large. I encourage you to read the following articles which will explain the project to you and ask you to consider what you can do to bless others in Jesus’ name.

How do you give?

Mark your gift “Starting Local” to support families in our New Life Ministry and guests at Third Sunday Supper. Mark your gift “Going Global” to support Ukraine’s refugees. Gifts marked “SLGG” will be divided equally between the two funds.

It’s only Oct. 26, but it’s not too early to consider blessing others this Christmas.

Pastor Greg

9. TONIGHT: Wednesday Community Potluck Dinner

What a great turnout last Wednesday night! Thanks to all who came out.  We’re back on TONIGHT at 5:30 p.m. in the gym. What is “Wednesday Night Community Potluck?” It’s a place for community. Individuals, couples, and families join in an intergenerational meal with great conversation and the opportunity to get to know the others seated at your table of 8.

All you need to do is show up and bring something to add to the buffet. Enough for your party and a couple of others. Homemade? Awesome! Store-Bought? Super! Missed getting something…well, we always seem to have enough. So, bring something to share and enjoy the fellowship.

14. This Sunday's Worship Gatherings

This Sunday we'll hear another installment of our monthly testimony series: His Name is Power. Deacon Denise will be interviewing Melanie Tingley who, this summer, had an exciting time on her short-term missionary journey.

In the gym, musical worship will be led by Greg Keezer and team. Pastor Greg will be preaching, inviting listeners to consider some new definitions around faith and mission. In the sanctuary, musical worship will be offered by the sanctuary choir, Ruth and Laura McGuire. The service begins with the piano reflections of Jerry McFarland. Pastor Keith will be offering the second part of his Galatians series of which he writes:

Two Sundays ago, we explored the backstory of Paul’s letter to the Galatians, and talked about the controversy that necessitated this intervention: despite starting strong in their faith, many of the Galatians were led astray by false teachers who stressed the importance of earning your salvation, rather than a joy-filled life that is a response to God’s gift of salvation through the Lord Jesus. But in the letter Paul does not just correct these misrepresentations, he also articulates with fresh power the message of the gospel and its implications for changing every aspect of the believer’s life, and thus takes them from fake news back to the good news. This week we will focus on the fruit of the Spirit in chapter 5, drawing on some prophetic material in Isaiah 32 as part of Paul’s thinking (e.g., v. 17: “The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever”) as well as outlining some of the psychological benefits of such qualities (e.g., patience, faithfulness, and self-control) that recent researchers are emphasizing. Beyond any cliché, we will illustrate this week that the fruit of the Spirit is “the ideal outcome of a divinely orchestrated transformation process to produce a Christlike character in the believer.”

Online or in-person we look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday morning!

17. The Case For Faith Study

Doubt is familiar territory for Lee Strobel, the former atheist and award-winning author of books for skeptics and Christians alike. But he believes that faith and reason go hand in hand, and that Christianity is, in rational terms, a defensible religion.

Description: In this six-session video Bible study, Strobel explores the most common emotional obstacles to faith in Christ, including:

  • The natural inclination to wrestle with faith and doubt.

  • The troubling presence of evil and suffering in the world.

  • The exclusivity of the Christian gospel.

Behind each of these considerations is the question: Can I doubt and still be a Christian?

When: Six Wednesdays from 6:30 until 8 p.m. (ending Dec. 7)

Where: In person — The Board Room, Third Floor, Family Life Center OR Online — via Zoom

Who: For all people who have questions regarding their faith. No need to attend Brunswick Street Baptist Church. Bring a friend.
