This Week @ BSBC
1. Sponsoring Children to Attend Green Hill Lake Camp
Each year, we have the privilege of raising funds to facilitate children having a summer Christian camping experience at Green Hill Lake Camp. The costs for a week of camp have, like everything else, increased. The price is approximately $500 per week. Many families find it impossible to afford such an experience for their children.
This year, the children we seek to sponsor come from our New Life Ministry, which provides spiritual support for moms living in challenging situations. In addition, there are children connected with the BSBC family who are seeking support. At this point, our goal for 2022 is $2,500. If you can partner with us in this way, please mark your gift “GHLC Sponsorship.” We’ll keep you posted on the giving to the fund.
If you know of a family seeking sponsorship, please contact Pastor Greg at greg@bsbc.nb.ca, and we’ll consider each request.
Pastor Greg
2. Congratulations to Pastor Changbin
Last weekend was a busy time for Pastor Changbin Tian as he and his family made a trip to Toronto so that he could attend his postponed graduation from Tyndall Seminary. We give thanks to God for Pastor Changbin for discerning a call to serve Christ in this way and uprooting his family to Toronto so he could pursue and receive his Master of Divinity Degree.
Pastor Changbin, we join our voices to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
3. Refugee Funding Update
Your Social Action Team thanks you for your ongoing support for the initiatives that we brought forward at our Annual Business Meeting including the sponsorship of another refugee family. We would like to provide you with an update on progress.
4. The Stewardship Report To The End of April

5. Bereavements
Please be in prayer for Erica, Damion, Domonic and Danielle Kelly as this Friday, they board a plane for a three-week trip to their home of origin in the Bahamas. This trip has been necessitated by the sudden passing of Erica’s father, Randolph McLeod, on Friday morning, April 22. Due to the distance, they will be gone for three weeks. In going, they will be able to attend the celebration of the life of Erica’s 83-year-old father.
Please also be in prayer for the family of the Late Robert (Bob) Burridge who passed away on Thursday, May 5 at Parkland Shannex. Bob had a distinguished career in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UNB. He retired from UNB in 1991 after serving for the previous eleven years as Vice-President (Academic) of the university. He remained active after his retirement, serving as President of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers in 1994, among other roles. Bob and his late wife, Ardeth were faithful members of the BSBC church family. Visitation and funeral service will take place at BSBC later in June. Read the full obituary.
Please be in prayer for David and Brenda Sansom on the passing of David’s mother, Stella Sansom of Parkland Shannex on Friday, May 6. A private committal service has taken place and a celebration of Stella’s life will be held at a later date. Her obituary included: She was a lifelong resident of Fredericton and very proud of it. Her family was her constant source of pride and joy. Mom was always quick to share her guidance and wisdom with them, whether it was requested or not. Her many friends provided her with the zest that fueled her longevity and quality of life. In the end, she lived life as it was meant to be lived. Stella and her late husband, Grant, were long-time members of our church family. Read the full obituary.
6. Mums for Mom

8. Children's Half Day Summer Camp
This Summer, the week of July 4 to 8, from 9 a.m. to Noon, our children will learn that God’s creativity didn’t stop in Genesis. The Master Artist is working to redeem, reclaim, and transform us — His creation — to the design He planned for us. Our children will see the beautiful truth that they are God’s creation as they learn to use their talents to bring glory to Him.
Join our team
We hope you will prayerfully consider being a part of BSBC’s 2022 Children’s Half-Day Summer Camp team! When you complete the volunteer registration, you’ll have the opportunity to tell us where and how you’re available to serve. If you have any questions about what a particular role will look like, we’ll be happy to help explain them so you can make an informed decision about your role before making a commitment.
Children’s Half-Day Summer Camp Theme Bible Verse: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10

10. Helping Village of Hope
Last Sunday morning, May 1, we had the privilege of hearing powerful testimonies from Dan and Desmond, two men whose lives have been changed by God through the ministry of The Village of Hope in Tracey. If you were not present, be sure to watch the service recordings (can you make that a link) and have your faith encouraged by Dan and Desmond’s stories of HOPE against the backdrop of addiction. To God be the glory.
Village of Hope is celebrating its 10th anniversary and we’d like to get them some “presents.” They are in need of practical items that are essential to their ministry. The “gift registry” is listed below. If you are able, purchase and then bring your items to the church, leave them in one of the baskets in front of the Connections Center desk. These collector baskets will be there until after the long weekend in May.
Helpful items (new or gently used) include:
Work gloves
Safety glasses
Rubber gloves for cleaning
Gardening gloves (men and women)
Food prep gloves
Aprons
Dish clothes and towels
Bath towels
Thank you for caring in this way!
11. Remembering Ukraine
We continue to be astounded by the harrowing events in Ukraine. Personally, I have struggled to be fresh in prayer for believers and non-believers in Ukraine and Russia. Last week I found the following article that was spiritually renewing. I pray that it will be a means of unleashing powerful prayer in your life.
12. Do You Like to Make Muffins?
Muffins are distributed every Sunday night by our Street Ministry team. We are seeking two dozen muffins for each week’s ministry.
Here are the details:
To avoid an over-stocking of the freezer, we're looking for just two dozen muffins delivered to the standing freezer in the main kitchen by Sunday of each week
Please wrap each muffin individually in cling wrap or place each in a baggie before bringing them to the church (it’s so much easier to access the frozen muffins and more sanitary to serve them when individually wrapped)
Please put (1) your name, (2) the date and (3) STREET MINISTRY on the bag in which you put the wrapped muffins to bring them to the freezer
To ensure that we get a fresh supply each week, you are invited to click the link below and fill your name in by the week or weeks you will provide a dozen muffins. OR, for that person-to-person interaction, feel free to call the church office at 458-8348, and your information will be taken and added to the plan.
13. Upcoming Memorial Services
The month of May will bring several Memorial Services for members of our church family who passed away in previous months. Thank you for praying for these families and, as able, coming to support them on the day.
Memorial Service for the Late Eldon Maston – Saturday, May 14, 11 a.m., BSBC Sanctuary (Masks Requested)
Memorial Service for the Late Marie Roberts – Saturday, May 28, 2 p.m., BSBC Sanctuary
14. Sunday Morning: May 15
“God directs his people not simply to worship but to sing his praises ‘before the nations.’ We are called not simply to communicate the gospel to nonbelievers; we must also intentionally celebrate the gospel before them.”
—Timothy J. Keller
Online or in person, we hope you’ll connect with us this week!
In the sanctuary, Dr. Keith will begin a three-week mini-series in Revelation. This week: “Route 66, Part 1: The Vision” based on Revelation, chapter 1. He offers: Imagine a prisoner, isolated in a secure fortress where escape is impossible. Suddenly, a mysterious visitor breaks into the prison, bypassing security to bring an astonishing message to the prisoner. This scene is found in Revelation chapter 1, and it is the prelude to the final book of the Bible. Yet, many believers are too intimidated by the beasts and symbols in Revelation and ignore it, while others read it incorrectly.
To be blunt, there is no shortage of confusion surrounding this book, even though it has inspired artists, musicians, theologians, poets, and persecuted Christians across the centuries. At the heart of this book is a transforming vision of the Lord Jesus that can seriously impact and reroute our lives right now. In this first installment of a short Spring series at TheStreet, we will start by diving into the opening sector of Revelation in order to experience these words and images of encouragement in a new way this season.
In the gym, Pastor Greg will reintroduce our series on Ephesians, taking us through the first half of Ephesians, chapter 5. It’s spring, and many are working in the garden to prepare the soil for planting and cleaning up the beds to ensure a healthy showing. Perhaps, spring is the time to consider what needs to be done in our spiritual lives to ensure a bountiful harvest of the “fruit of the Spirit” for God’s glory.
In the gym, Julianne Moore will be leading worship. In the sanctuary, one of our ensembles will be singing, and Jerry McFarland will be our pianist.
15. Upcoming Community Events
Elm City String Quartet
The Elm City String Quartet is back with a pairing of some of the greatest quartet pieces by French composers. Both Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel used their unique approach to music to burst open the sonic pallet of the string quartet. The result is haunting melodies that soar over flourishes of colour, squeezing through chromaticism and expanding into open harmonies.
The concert will be offered on Friday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at Wilmot United Church. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students. They will be following the venue's COVID-19 protocols. This includes distancing and masks. Part of the proceeds from this event will go towards the Wilmot United Church Benevolent Fund.
Grace Memorial String Ensemble & Friends Present Concert for Ukraine
Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m., join us as we raise funds to support Ukraine. The Grace Memorial String Ensemble & Friends will be performing at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, located at 536 Northumberland Street. A freewill love offering will be collected. Thank you for your support.
16. Requests for Volunteers: Make a Wish Foundation
My name is Sue Dempster, and I am the Development Officer for Make A Wish, New Brunswick Chapter.
I am writing to you as I am coordinating this year's “Freddy Ribfest” and I am looking for volunteers. We are excited that 2022 will be an in-person event. The event runs from June 9 to 12, and we are looking for volunteers for entrance into the event and/or selling pop and water, shifts are 4 to 8 hours, and a meal is provided. Would you have some folks that would love to partner with us with their time? They can reach directly out to me at 506-566-5774 or Susan.Dempster@makeawish.ca.
Make-A-Wish Canada relies solely on the generosity of individuals, groups, and businesses, who through donations and fundraisers enable us to continue our work of granting wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 17 years of age who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Our Saint John office services the entire province of New Brunswick, granting heartfelt wishes of local children.
Due to COVID-19, we are down 30% of revenues so every bit helps. We are currently working on 72 wishes across New Brunswick, with new referrals coming in every day. With your support, we can ensure funds raised may go directly to fulfilling wishes opposed to any admin costs. There is no time to waste for these children and their families – they are counting on all of us.
Thanks,
Sue
