1. Greetings From Our New Community Connections Pastor

Watters Family.jpeg

Wednesday, June 30, 2021

Dear BSBC Family,

Last week, when having not slept with excitement Wednesday night into Thursday, Fi and I found ourselves trying to fill Thursday with any tasks possible to make the time go by a bit quicker until we were to have the Zoom call at 7:30pm “Haggis Time” as it has become affectionately referred to.

We were full of expectant anticipation for what lay ahead. The promise of Romans 8:28 has been a real source of comfort and guidance throughout the last number of years for us as a family and we had been holding onto these words throughout the application process. 'And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.' Believing that a call to minister at BSBC was the next step that God had for us as a family in ministry.

Throughout the process, although it has been a very in-depth interview and discernment process, we found ourselves making many friends on the Search Committee and amongst the Deacons as well as growing a deep love for Pastor Greg and Margaret, so much so that the Holy Spirit had already been transferring our hearts to be with you all.

So, when the time for the call arrived and we found out the result of the vote we were absolutely delighted and so excited to accept the call!

We cannot wait to come and be with all the BSBC family, start developing relationships both within the congregation and community of Fredericton and seeing what the Holy Spirit has for us and our new church family in these coming years.

Thank you so much for all your positivity, care, encouragement and love so far and we are so looking forward to taking these next steps with you in person soon.

Love and blessings,
Pastor Ross, Fi, Eden, Ariel and Zion

Note: Air tickets have been purchased for an Aug. 30 departure!

2. A BODcast on Psalm 2

Untitled design.png

While the daily news rages with various soundbites of anger and rebellion, this is not a fresh development: according to the book of Psalms, it is actually the way of the world.

Psalm 2 is located at the gateway of the book, and is designed to give us wisdom as we hear such nightly raging. Although the nations plot, it is ultimately in vain, and God has appointed a king whose rule is not limited by any kind of rebellion or revolt, and we all would be wise to heed this truth rather than any voices to the contrary!

Please join me for this month’s consideration of God’s word.
Keith Bodner

3. Myles on a Mission: Launch

Myles on a Mission Bulletin info!.png

Exciting times for Reuben and Leah Myles who, this week, are ‘leaving on a jet plane’ to land in the Philippines and begin on the ground missionary service at Faith Academy! Please pray for them as they travel, settle and serve for the glory of Jesus!

4. Pastoral Care During Pastor Greg's Vacation

Pastor Greg will be taking two weeks’ vacation during the month of July. He will be leaving after the service on Sunday, July 11 and return for Saturday/Sunday, July 17 and 18. Then he will be leaving for another week on vacation, following the service on the 18 and retuning for Saturday, July 24.

During his time away, weekdays you can contact the church office with your pastoral care needs. At other times, you can contact the church office and listen to the phone message for the contact phone number of the ‘Deacon on Call’.

During the first week of his absence this will be Deacon Anna Marie Colpitts and for the second week, Deacon Mary Tingley. They will take your call and make arrangements with Rev. Kevin Culberson to engage with you. Your Board of Deacons are grateful to Kevin for his willingness to minister over the summer months.

Thank you, Kevin, for providing this support to Pastor Greg and your BSBC family.

Meet Rev. Kevin Culberson

Kevin’s story is marked by life experiences and education that has led him to pastoral/ teaching ministry (30 years in NB & PEI with CBAC churches) counselling both privately and at NBCC throughout the past 11 years in Fredericton region.

He currently serves as part-time Baptist Hospital Chaplain for York & Queens-Sunbury Baptist Associations at DECH/OPH. Meeting and working with people of all ages in all walks of life as God’s servant to bring healing and hope, has been a major theme throughout his life and ministry.

He is married to Ruth Webber and they have three living children (Andrew Culberson and Katy, Sarah Hoyt and Nathan, Rebekah Logan and Anthony) and seven grandchildren. Kevin and Ruth have attended BSBC since 2010 and have lived in Fredericton for 25 years.

5. Expression of Thanks

Rev. Larry and Lena Meade want to thank the church family for their congratulations on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Once again, we wish the Meades God’s blessing and thank them for an example of faithfulness under Him.

6. This Sunday's Gym Sermon Cafe & Sanctuary Blended Worship Service

Last Sunday was a wonderful launch of our summer format. Thanks to all who joined us! This Sunday at BSBC you continue to have two choices for engagement with God’s word:

Sermon Café (Gym)

In the gym, you're invited to our “Sermon Café” where you’ll be welcomed by our hosts and directed to your table and offered hot or cold beverages and baked goods. You and your guest(s) will enjoy background worship music as you enjoy each other’s company and consider the sermon prep question handout. Then, when the sermon is on in the sanctuary, you’ll be invited to watch it in the gym followed by additional refreshments and conversation with your guest(s). Sundays in the gym will be relaxed, personal and allow you to engage with God’s word and each other.

Blended Worship (Sanctuary)

In the sanctuary, you’ll engage in a ‘combined’ service that is unlike a “usual” traditional or contemporary service. There will be elements familiar to both services as we seek to offer ourselves to God through various acts of worship and engage with Pastor Greg in the study of God’s word. This Sunday, once more, we’re grateful to Jon and Alyse Wilton, Gloria Tranquilla, David Steeves and a men’s quartet who will lead the musical elements.

Sermon

For the sermon, we’ll be looking at Acts 12: 1-16. Peter’s in prison but soon to be miraculously released!  This is an account that affirms that when God has a plan he cannot be stopped by the power of evil, the plans of humans, the weak prayers of God’s people or our personal decisions. Oops, I might have given too much away.

KidzTown

Parents, remember that KidzTown is running for children K-Gr 5. And, there’s a preschool room on the gym hallway if you should need to use it.

We look forward to new iterations of worship for the summer of 2020! Please be sure to make your reservation by clicking the link below.

7. Summer Fridays in July & August

Summer brings an opportunity for adjusted schedules and that includes our church office. Please note that on Friday afternoons for July and August, our office will be closing at 3 p.m. Thank you for noting this change in the routine.

Your Board of Management
