  11. This Week @ BSBC

1. Social Action Team Thanks

Your Social Action Team wishes to thank you for generously supporting two recent community outreach initiatives.

Firstly, thank you for filling the "Sock Box" for Street-Level Ministry! We now have a sufficient supply to offer the comfort of clean and dry socks to our homeless neighbours for the upcoming weeks. When our stock runs low, we'll share an update.

Secondly, thank you to all those who participated in the "Make a Meal" ministry through June for a local couple facing the challenge of degenerative illness. The home-cooked meals and kind words offered were a welcome blessing to this husband who is caring for his wife at home. What a wonderful opportunity to share God's love beyond our walls!

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:40

2. Green Hill Lake Camp Share-A-Wage

It’s that time of the year, time to talk about our BSBC youth serving this summer at Green Hill Lake Camp. For summer 2022, that includes Dylan Wightman and Nathan Holmes. Here’s your opportunity to get to know them and how you can support them!

3. NextGen Events

Half-Day Children's Camp

Please be in prayer for our leaders and the hearts of the children attending this week's half-day camp. It's been excellent so far!

Youth Group

This week we're having a pool party on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stephen & Deborah VanSlyke's house. Youth are encouraged to bring their swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, and water! There will be hotdogs provided at the event.

Please email Pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca to let her know if you're coming and for all the details.

4. Sunday Morning: July 10

We hope you'll join us for worship this Sunday in person or online!

On this second Sunday in July, in both services, Dr. Keith will be bringing the second part of his two-part series on the prophet Elisha.

“Good News in Crisis” focuses on: the early section of 2 Kings there is relentless pressure from the powerful Aramean kingdom to the north of Israel, and their army is constantly threatening to destroy their neighbours. Indeed, in 2 Kings 7 the Arameans have surrounded the city, and the situation appears hopeless. Four lepers conclude that their only chance is to surrender to the Arameans, on the slim hopes that their lives will be spared. But these four lepers make an unexpected discovery, and stumble upon a moment of good news that provides us at TheStreet with some insight on the power of the gospel for our lives in these days.

In both services, Deacon Denise Mersereau will be leading another “His Name is Power” segment with her guest, Jennifer Weed. Musical leadership in the sanctuary will include a vocal ensemble and a solo ministry by Chris Graves. In the gym, worship will be led by Jon Wilton.

5. Bereavement

Our love goes out to Illyana Vermeersch and family on the passing of her dad, Louis “Lou” Vermeersch of Keswick Ridge, NB, husband of Claudia (Sears) Vermeersch occurred on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Fredericton Hospice House. He was born in Gits, Belgium, came to Canada and worked as an Engineer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Bristol Aerospace, IMP Aerospace, Canadian Helicopters and Litton Systems. He was a member of St. Dunstan’s Parish and was involved in the music ministry of the church. Lou enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid golfer.

The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Dunstan’s Parish on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 12 Noon with Father Peter Osborne as celebrant. Those attending the Mass will be required to wear a mask.

Thank you for praying for Illyana and her husband, John Powers and for their children Olivia, Abby and Samantha as well as the extended family.

7. We Need Your Help: Sign Up for Fall Sunday School

We need your help! We're looking toward the fall and Sunday School. But with a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, we have no idea how to plan.

Regardless of age, please sign up using the link below if you'll be participating in Sunday School this fall. This information is essential for recruiting teachers and determining potential numbers, which informs class groupings — especially in children’s ministry. And speaking of teachers, are you willing to explore taking a Sunday School teaching position? If so, you can indicate it on your form.

Your participation now ensures that we're ready for the fall launch. In short, we can’t do it without you!

8. Church Library

Our church is blessed with a great library! It has everything from children's books, Bible studies, all types of fiction, and large print. Stop in and take a look! We're open every Sunday after the services.

Please check for overdue books at home if you have used the library. Books can be returned to the locked box outside the library whenever the church is open. If you've borrowed books and cannot return them, please call Sharon at 450-7878.

9. Upcoming Pastoral Staff Vacations

Your Board of Deacons provide the following report about the vacation/leave plans of our pastoral team:

Given the parameters of his contract, Dr. Bodner will be preaching up to and including Sunday, July 10 and then will be back with us for the first Sunday in September. Pray for the Bodners as they plan summer travels to the west coast to visit with family.

Pastor Greg will begin his second month of vacation on Monday, July 25 returning to ministry on Monday, Aug. 22. Given the newness of Pastors Nikki and Ross to BSBC, Pastor Greg will be available for funerals during times off. This has been the pattern since the beginning of the interim period.

Pastor Ross will enjoy another week of vacation beginning on Monday, July 18, returning to the office on Monday, July 25.

Pastor Nikki will then enjoy a further time of vacation starting on Sunday, August 14 returning to ministry on Sunday, Aug. 28.
