7. CU Serves: Sam Tingley’s Guatemala Mission Trip
I am so excited to be participating in Crandall University’s CU Serves short term mission trip to Guatemala in April. After having an amazing experience this past summer working as a youth leader here at BSBC, I felt a call to do something out of my comfort zone before I complete my university studies. I have never had the opportunity to experience cross-cultural mission and this opportunity seemed like an amazing way to gain such experience.
We will be working with local churches to support their youth ministries and parents as well as some opportunities to support local church members and their businesses.
I believe that this will be a life changing discipleship experience for me. I hope to return home with a new perspective on the work God is doing around the world and I pray that God will use this experience to change me personally, in a way that stimulates my desire to make a difference and seek Him in everything.
I would sincerely appreciate prayer for safety, authentic connection, for joy in serving and for Christ’s love to be shared.
If you feel led to support me financially as well, please follow this link to my fundraising page or scan the QR code below.
Thank you so much for your love and support, now and always.
Respectfully submitted,
Sam Tingley
8. SENT Team to India: John Stewart
In February, I was pleased to be included in the SENT team of three, who represented CBM at the CBM India’s 150th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration (1874 – 2024) of pastoral work in India. This was my 9th visit to India since 2010.
I was pleased to bring greetings on February 18 to over 100,000 Saura Baptists who attended the celebration in Serango, Odisha. It was both formidable and humbling for me to address this gathering with my greetings from Canada and to acknowledge the efforts Canadian Baptist missionaries. I mentioned the work of Muriel Bent, Shirley McNally and Shirley Knight, all of whom served at the Bethany Bungalow for girls in Serango. Additionally, I reflected on the three previous visits to Serango and my work with Saura pastors.
The other place I was invited to be part of the celebrations was in Kakinada, the location of seminary where I had previously taught five courses. The stated purpose of my tourist visa was vising friends, not engaging in public ceremonies. In Serango and Kakinada the police were petitioned to allow me to bring greetings. In Serange, this permission was granted but not in Kakinada. Instead, the faculty organized a separate day for me where I met and spoke to students, visited the new married student quarters, and enjoyed a delicious Indian meal.
The other aspect of my SENT trip was at Clark Theological College in Mokochung, Nagaland for two weeks. Nagaland is in northeast India in the foothills of the Himalayas. This state is unusual for India in that mostly all citizens are Christian.
I collaborated with the professor of Pastoral Care and Counselling to provide input to issues in providing Pastoral care, and mental health in Pastoral Psychology. The issues covered both psychological and theological perspectives. As an example, one topic was “Death and Bereavement and the Theology of Hope and Eternal Life.” The format I followed involved leading a brief discussion on the topic and then inviting students to ask questions, state their opinions and individual experiences related to the topic. I enjoyed meeting and interacting with the students who were very responsive graduate students as we dialogued with the topics.
I thank all the people who remembered me in their prayers. I appreciated knowing that fellow believers were upholding me in prayer daily, the thought of which encouraged me greatly.
Respectfully submitted,
John Stewart
9. Community Volunteer Income Tax Clinic: Tuesdays, 1 – 5 pm
The tax season is upon us once again and BSBC is holding free income tax clinics under the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Over 700 returns for low-income earners, students, and new immigrants were completed last year.
We need people who can help ANY TIME between 12:30 and 5:00 pm on Tuesday afternoons. You do not have to be available every Tuesday. We can use people who are willing to greet clients and help them fill out a simple form. NO TAX EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
BSBC holds tax clinics on Tuesday afternoons between 1:00 and 5:00 pm during the months of March and April. This is a free service to low- and modest-income earners, including students and newcomers to Canada.
If you are interested in learning how to help people with their taxes, there is training available, and we will help get you trained. We have COVID safety protocols in place and we provide the necessary masks, etc. as needed.
If you can help, please call the church office at 506-458-8348 or contact us directly.
Finally, if you or someone you know could benefit from this free service, we will be happy to help.

10. Muffin Ministry
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.
Our schedule is now open for 2024. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.

The worship service in the gym will be under the musical leadership of Greg Keezer with special music by Youth Handbells. The worship service in the sanctuary will be under the musical leadership of Gloria Tranquilla and David Steeves, with special music by Beth Snow.
This Sunday, we will be celebrating at the Lord’s table. Dr. Keith will be preaching in the gym. Of his sermon, entitled After Easter Part 1 he writes, With the month of April having now arrived, we will embark on a short two-week series entitled “After Easter.” If one of our neighbors knocked on the door and asked, “What’s the point about Easter? I get the death thing, but I don’t really understand it,” how might we respond? As it turns out, there is an incredible summary of the Easter story in Mark 12:1-12, a parable that Jesus tells as he enters the city of Jerusalem on his way to the cross. In this first installment of our series, we will study this parable, and along with an important background image from Isaiah 5, this week’s message will provide a fresh appreciation of this high point in the spiritual calendar. Rev. Ross will be preaching through Acts 2 and a Jesus-centered community in the sanctuary. This is the final sermon in his Growing Young series.
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.
