1. 2024 Annual Meeting Update

The moderator reports that over 100 people attended in person and another 18 people attended on ZOOM at last Wednesday’s Annual Business Meeting.

An amendment was made to the minutes of the BSBC Fall Business Meeting, held on October 25, 2023, as recorded in the 2023 Annual Report. The amendment that was presented and accepted by vote, will be recorded in the minutes of the 2024 Annual Business Meeting.

In Other New Business, three motions by the Social Action Team were passed and will be recorded in the minutes of the 2024 Annual Business Meeting, as will clarifying comments by the treasurer regarding the mortgage balance presented in the Spring Business Meeting and Fall Business Meeting minutes.

Thank you to the Pastoral and Office staff and church officers and many volunteers who made this an organized, thoughtful, and thorough annual meeting, preceded by a pizza potluck meal and church family time together.

Respectfully submitted,

Calvin Smith, Moderator

2. Deacons’ Update

Believers’ Baptism

There are exciting things happening at BSBC! On Palm Sunday, at our combined service, we will be celebrating believers’ baptism. If this is something that you have been considering or if you have questions about baptism, our pastoral staff would love to connect with you. During your baptism, if you would like to present your testimony, it would be wonderful. If, however, this would be a reason to hesitate - please don't. Your testimony is just that - yours. So, it can be shared in whatever manner in which you are comfortable.

Respectfully submitted,

Sheila Ross, Chair, Board of Deacons

ABM Highlights

We want to thank so many for attending the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) last Wednesday; it was great to have over 130 of our church family attend in the sanctuary and online.

We celebrated the vibrant ministries to all ages and expressed our appreciation to our pastoral staff for their dedication and willingness to minister beyond the scope of their pastoral position descriptions. We celebrated Reverend Ross’s ordination service that took place in October and Pastor Changbin’s recent initiation of the process toward ordination with CBAC. Information from the recent Deacon’s retreat was shared regarding pastoral staffing needs and Sunday morning worship format discussions. An update from CBAC was also shared with the church family.

The minutes from this ABM will be published in our BSBC annual report as is our common practice. God continues to bless His church as we strive to be Christ-like, and a welcoming place for all to experience the love of Jesus and live it out everywhere.

Respectfully submitted,

Dan Wilton

7. A Time to Pray

Dear BSBC family,

I am continuing to host a prayer time in the sanctuary from 12:00 pm till 1:30 pm each weekday, Monday to Friday, and during this upcoming March Break week.

Please, again, feel free to join me for any portion of that time. I plan to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading, and that might involve prayer ministry, sharing, praying and scripture reading and listening to or singing worship music. Any and all are welcome, and please feel free to communicate if you would like prayer ministry during this time.

I have definitely felt a call from the Lord to dedicate these upcoming weeks to prayer, but there may be an odd day that I am not there. However, I would love to see someone praying in the sanctuary every weekday, so I will leave a notebook, which can serve as a prayer journal, for anyone who wants to record prayers or to share prayer requests. I will place the notebook on the little brown table close to the platform stairs which are closest to the piano and leave it there during the week. May God bless you all with His nearness and presence during these days.

Thank you,

Debbie Kierstead

10. BSBC Missions Partners

Dear BSBC family,

Once more, you boldly answered God's call to meet a need! Solomon often speaks about finances and generosity, so here is a wonderful truth about liberality: One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; (Proverbs 11:24a)

The love offered by so many of you will actually meet two missions-related needs:

1. Expenses linked to the BSBC missions partners reunion in Asia.

2. Refreshing our missions wall. Stay tuned!

Lastly, on behalf of our missions partners ...

Cảm ơn! Salamat! Asante! Thank you!

Your BSBC Missions Committee

15. Community Engagement & Volunteer Opportunities

1. Community Volunteer Income Tax Clinic : Clinic Opens March 5 at 1:00 pm

The tax season will be upon us once again and BSBC will be holding free income tax clinics under the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Over 700 returns for low-income earners, students, and new immigrants were completed last year.

We really do need more volunteers! We need people who can help ANY TIME between 12:30 and 5:00 pm on Tuesday afternoons. You do not have to be available every Tuesday. We can use people who are willing to greet clients and help them fill out a simple form. NO TAX EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

BSBC holds tax clinics on Tuesday afternoons between 1:00 and 5:00 pm during the months of March and April. This is a free service to low- and modest-income earners, including students and newcomers to Canada.

If you are interested in learning how to help people with their taxes, there is training available, and we will help get you trained. We have COVID safety protocols in place and we provide the necessary masks, etc. as needed.

If you can help, please call the church office at 506-458-8348 or contact us directly.

Finally, if you or someone you know could benefit from this free service, we will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Ron Smith

2.  Muffin Ministry

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.

Our schedule is now open for 2024. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.

Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.

All other months are covered. Our guests are not fussy and are so appreciative of every meal served. A $150.00 stipend is available to help cover the cost of expenses.

If you have any questions or to volunteer your group, please contact Judy Thompson at 506-238-9903 or email judypaul1088@gmail.com.
