This is an important event which highlights our ministries, opportunities to serve, and our financial direction for 2024. We encourage in-person attendance as our required quorum is 75 members.

Pizza Potluck

Please join us in the gym at 5:30 pm for a pizza potluck. We will provide the pizza (Meat, Hawaiian, Veggie, Pepperoni or Cheese) and ask, if you are able, to bring a simple dessert or side salad to share. At 6:30 pm, following our potluck, we will travel from the gym to the sanctuary to prepare for the start of our Annual Business Meeting at 6:45 pm. If you have any food intolerances or questions about the Pizza Potluck, please contact Anna Marie Colpitts or the church office at 506-458-8348.

Childcare

We will be providing childcare for those members in attendance with children from infant to age 18 from 6:30 pm to the end of the Business meeting. Our usual programs will open for all children and youth in attendance. These programs include Youth Bible study for youth from Grade 5 to 12, Hands-In Girls Ministry for girls from Kindergarten to Grade 5, Scouts for boys from Kindergarten to Grade 5, as well as our preschool ministry. Zoom

If you are unable to attend in person, please contact the church office at 506-458-8348 to register for the online Zoom meeting. In order to guarantee receipt of the Zoom link, please register by 3:00 pm on Monday, February 19, 2024. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the church office at 506-458-8348.

2. 2023 Annual Report

Each year we compile a booklet that contains reports from all full time and part time staff; all boards, committees, teams; the report of the nominating committee who have recruited volunteers to serve in all aspects of church life; the financial report for the previous year and the budget proposal for the upcoming year; the membership lists and the adherents list. As you can tell, it’s a big job and we’re grateful to Dale Bray, Brian McEwing, Gloria Tranquilla and Naomi Phillips who have edited and compiled these individual submissions together into one cohesive booklet.

The 2023 Annual Report is available from the church office during the week and in the sanctuary and gym foyers on Sundays.

To have a printed copy mailed to you, please contact the church office at 506-458-8348. Please note that we cannot guarantee delivery before the Annual Business Meeting on February 21, 2024.

To have an electronic copy of the report booklet, please email the church office at receptionist@bsbc.nb.ca.

4. Deacon’s Update

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Baptists beginning a work in India. John Stewart has been asked to participate in a SENT team representing Canadian Baptist Ministries in Mississauga, and John is pleased to participate in the celebrations. John will be attending the Soura celebrations at Serango and others in Andra Pradesh. Additionally, he will be visiting Clark Theological College in Nagaland, located in the northeast section of India. While in Nagaland, he will be speaking in chapel and teaching a class or two at the College. John will also present two workshops to pastors on Integral Mission and speak in churches in Dimapur and Mokokchung. Further, John will be visiting CBM projects in the area. Please pray for safe travels to India and while in India, and for the leading of the Spirit as John ministers to students, pastors, and congregations. He will be away from Fredericton for four weeks.

The Board of Deacons is continuing to review our Pastoral Review process. We have reached out to CBAC, our governing body, for samples of other churches’ pastoral review processes. When we received feedback from CBAC, we were pleased to hear that in the samples that are normally sent out to churches who are asking the same question, our BSBC process is included in the package as a good option. It was affirming to know that our process is recognized as a good process and a good foundation to build on as we look to improve.

5. Going Deeper With God

Throughout the month of February for 24 days, we are raising awareness of an opportunity to Go Deeper With God. Bill Morrison, currently helping out at The Bridge Church, has set up this opportunity from February 2 to 25. We are invited to meditate on God’s word, engage in worship, pray and journal, and practice fasting.

8. Let’s Celebrate Our Ministries

In 2024, we would like to start celebrating all of the good things that have happened or are happening or will be happening at Brunswick Street Baptist Church (BSBC).

We invite you to submit a paragraph (or two!) of the good things that are being accomplished (please include a photograph if you have one!) through each of the programs and events that happen at BSBC.

Please email the information on your group, ministry, or event to the church office, along with a couple of photos, to naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca. We will compile these good news stories for a presentation on March 31 which is Easter Sunday.

9. A Time to Pray

Dear BSBC family,

I am continuing to host a prayer time in the sanctuary from 12:00 noon till 1:30 pm each weekday, Monday to Friday, I have sensed that the Lord wants me to shift to an emphasis of worship, and so I will be spending time intentionally playing music (hymns or worship songs) and likely singing along at times.

Please, again, feel free to join me for any portion of that time. I plan to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading, and that might involve prayer ministry, sharing, praying and scripture reading. God inhabits the praises of His people and I want to enter into His presence. Any and all are welcome, and please feel free to communicate if you would like prayer ministry during this time. I have definitely felt a call from the Lord to dedicate these upcoming weeks to prayer, but I have also sensed He wants me to be available to change “my plans” at a moment’s notice, so there may be an odd day that I am not there. However, I would love to see someone praying in the sanctuary every weekday, so I will leave a notebook, which can serve as a prayer journal, for anyone who wants to record prayers or to share prayer requests. I will place the notebook on the little brown table close to the platform stairs which are closest to the piano and leave it there during the week.

May God bless you all with His nearness and presence during these days.

Thank you,

Debbie Kierstead

10. BSBC Women’s Missionary Society: Monday, Feb 12

The Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) of Brunswick Street Baptist Church would like to invite all ladies to join us on Monday, February 12 at 1:30 pm. 12. Community Volunteer Income Tax Clinic

The tax season will be upon us once again and BSBC will be holding free income tax clinics under the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Over 700 returns for low-income earners, students, and new immigrants were completed last year.

We really do need more volunteers! We need people who can help ANY TIME between 12:30 and 5:00 pm on Tuesday afternoons. You do not have to be available every Tuesday. We can use people who are willing to greet clients and help them fill out a simple form. NO TAX EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

BSBC holds tax clinics on Tuesday afternoons between 1:00 and 5:00 pm during the months of March and April. This is a free service to low- and modest-income earners, including students and newcomers to Canada.

If you are interested in learning how to help people with their taxes, there is training available, and we will help get you trained. We have COVID safety protocols in place and we provide the necessary masks, etc. as needed.

If you can help, please call the church office at 506-458-8348 or contact us directly.

Finally, if you or someone you know could benefit from this free service, we will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Ron Smith

17. Ladies Afternoon Bible Study: The Armor of God

Carol Bray is hosting a ladies Bible study, The Armor of God, by Priscilla Shirer, on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 pm.

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you. The enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer’s inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory.

All ladies are welcome! Please contact Carol Bray for more information.

18. Thursday Evening Ladies Bible Study

Bo Vinh-Doyle is hosting a ladies’ Bible study, Elijah, by Priscilla Shirer, on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm, in the boardroom above the gym.

Old Testament heroes are best known for their most celebrated moments: Moses dividing the Red Sea; David slaying Goliath; Gideon routing an insurmountable army; Joshua marching around the defiant walls of Jericho. And Elijah—calling down fire on Mount Carmel. Every serious believer longs to summon up that kind of boldness and faith, yet few are willing to go through the process required to get them there. Join the journey through the life and times of the prophet Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine. And how the emboldened, fiery faith you desire is being fashioned by God in your life right now. This Bible study will run for 14 weeks.

This study is open to all women. We hope you will join us. Please contact Bo Vinh-Doyle with any questions.

19. Seniors Drop-In: Wednesdays

Carol Bray is hosting a Seniors Drop-In in the gym on Wednesday afternoons at 1:30 pm. Please join us as we play games or just chat. Bring games, snacks, friends, and be prepared for a great afternoon out!

For more information, contact Carol Bray.

20.  Muffin Ministry

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.

Our schedule is now open for 2024. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.

Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.
