23. This Week @ BSBC
1. Board of Deacons Retreat
On Saturday, January 20, our Board of Deacons held a retreat to prayerfully and collectively consider two main points; the direction the Lord has for BSBC regarding our Sunday Congregational Worship as well as beginning a pastoral staff strengths and needs assessment. This is necessary to develop the pastoral job description that we will need for the search committee that will be struck. This past November, the Nominating Committee and Board of Deacons’ agreed that it would be wise to consider the strength of our current pastoral staff and the gifts and skills that will complement them before a search is started. Our church moderator and vice moderator were also aware of the decision to invest this time to better equip our search committee.
We continue to recognize how blessed we are by our Pastors Ross, Nikki, Keith, Changbin, Kevin (interim until June), and all our coordinators as they serve at BSBC.
It is exciting to share that Pastor Ross is also part of the CBAC future vision team by invitation. Please pray for him and this team as they decipher and discern God’s vision for our denomination in the next 5 years.
2. Self Check-In for Preschool & KidzTown
Faster and Easier Registration!
Attention all parents of preschool and elementary age children. We have a new way to register your child(ren) for church that is faster and easier!

Quick and easy, and ready to worship!!!
In person Check-in and registration is also available at the Connection Center desk, where volunteers would be more than happy to assist.

3. Assistant Stage Crew Opportunity
The Board of Management is looking for a part-time staff member to assist with the setup and tear down for the worship service in the gym.
POSITION OUTLINE
In conjunction with the Facility Assistant, the Assistant Stage Crew will setup the sound equipment and staging and chairs for the Sunday Contemporary Worship Service in the gym on Saturday, and tear down the sound equipment and staging and return the chairs to the storage area after services on Sunday.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Each Saturday, in conjunction with the Facility Assistant and after any reservations for use of the gymnasium, the Assistant Stage Crew will help setup the gym for Contemporary Worship Service on Sunday morning by:
• Bringing all staging pieces out from the storage area
• Securing the stage and stairs in place

• Moving the chairs into place
After Worship services are complete on Sunday mornings, the Assistant Stage Crew will support the Facility Assistant to tear down the sound equipment and staging and return the chairs to the storage area.

4. Let’s Celebrate Our Ministries
In 2024, we would like to start celebrating all of the good things that have happened or are happening or will be happening at Brunswick Street Baptist Church (BSBC).
We invite you to submit a paragraph (or two!) of the good things that are being accomplished (please include a photograph if you have one!) through each of the programs and events that happen at BSBC.
Please email the information on your group, ministry, or event to the church office, along with a couple of photos, to naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca. We started sharing this good news on Sunday, January 21 and will continue sharing over the coming months.

8. A Time to Pray
Dear BSBC family,
I am continuing to host a prayer time in the sanctuary from 12:00 noon till 1:30 pm each weekday, Monday to Friday, I have sensed that the Lord wants me to shift to an emphasis of worship, and so I will be spending time intentionally playing music (hymns or worship songs) and likely singing along at times.
Please, again, feel free to join me for any portion of that time. I plan to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading, and that might involve prayer ministry, sharing, praying and scripture reading. God inhabits the praises of His people and I want to enter into His presence. Any and all are welcome, and please feel free to communicate if you would like prayer ministry during this time. I have definitely felt a call from the Lord to dedicate these upcoming weeks to prayer, but I have also sensed He wants me to be available to change “my plans” at a moment’s notice, so there may be an odd day that I am not there. However, I would love to see someone praying in the sanctuary every weekday, so I will leave a notebook, which can serve as a prayer journal, for anyone who wants to record prayers or to share prayer requests. I will place the notebook on the little brown table close to the platform stairs which are closest to the piano and leave it there during the week.
May God bless you all with His nearness and presence during these days.
Thank you,
Debbie Kierstead

13. Ladies Afternoon Bible Study: The Armor of God
Carol Bray is hosting a ladies Bible study, The Armor of God, by Priscilla Shirer, on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 pm.
All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you. The enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer’s inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory.
All ladies are welcome! Please contact Carol Bray for more information.
14. Thursday Evening Ladies Bible Study
Bo Vinh-Doyle is hosting a ladies’ Bible study, Elijah, by Priscilla Shirer, on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm, in the boardroom above the gym.
Old Testament heroes are best known for their most celebrated moments: Moses dividing the Red Sea; David slaying Goliath; Gideon routing an insurmountable army; Joshua marching around the defiant walls of Jericho. And Elijah—calling down fire on Mount Carmel. Every serious believer longs to summon up that kind of boldness and faith, yet few are willing to go through the process required to get them there. Join the journey through the life and times of the prophet Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine. And how the emboldened, fiery faith you desire is being fashioned by God in your life right now. This Bible study will run for 14 weeks.
This study is open to all women. We hope you will join us. Please contact Bo Vinh-Doyle with any questions.
15. Seniors Drop-In: January 24
Carol Bray is hosting a Seniors Drop-In in the gym on Wednesday afternoons at 1:30 pm. Please join us as we play games or just chat. Bring games, snacks, friends, and be prepared for a great afternoon out!
For more information, contact Carol Bray.
16. Muffin Ministry
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.
Our schedule is now open for 2024. We still require 3 dozen muffins per week. Please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below to sign up to serve in this way or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for him.
17. Third Sunday Supper
Our Third Sunday Supper (TSS) ministry is going strong with up to 50 guests some Sundays. This is an incredible ministry where we can meet folks in a relaxing and loving atmosphere, while gently planting seeds of faith.
In order to continue with this important work, we are looking for anyone – friends, family, or group – that would volunteer to prepare a meal for our TSS guests from April 2024 onward. January, February, and March are covered. Our guests are not fussy and are so appreciative of every meal served. A $150.00 stipend is now being offered to help cover the cost of expenses.
