1. Proposed Changes to the Constitution
“The Constitution Committee is proposing amendments to the BSBC Constitution at the Annual Meeting. It is required that the notice of a proposed amendment be made each of the four Sundays leading up to the Annual Meeting. A summary of proposed changes can be found below. Copies of this document are available outside the sanctuary and the gym. A copy of the BSBC Constitution, incorporating the proposed amendments, is available on request from the Church Office by email or in paper copy.”

2. Family Day: Feb 17
Happy Family Day! Please note that the church offices will be closed on Monday, February 17 in honor of Family Day. We encourage families to take this special day to be with one another and deepen their relationships with each other.
3. No Sunday School: Feb 16
This Sunday, there will be no Sunday School for elementary-aged students, but classes will still be offered for those in Grades 6–12. We encourage families to take this opportunity to spend extra time together, and we hope our Sunday School teachers enjoy a well-deserved Sunday off.
Join us next Sunday, February 23, as we resume Sunday School for all ages—Pre-K to Grade 12—with engaging, age-appropriate Gospel teaching. Meanwhile, parents and adults are invited to relax with tea, coffee, and fellowship in the Connection Center and Family Room.

4. Call for Baptisms
Have you ever thought about getting baptised but still have a lot of questions?
If so, hopefully we can help answer or at least encourage further conversation.
An Overview of Baptism
Baptism is a symbol. It is to show the world that you love, trust and have put your hope in Christ. It’s like a wedding ring.
Let’s say you were not married, but if you put a wedding ring on your finger, would that make you married? Of course not! Similarly, you can be baptised in a church, but that doesn’t make you a follower of Jesus. Now let’s say you are married, but you just don’t have a ring on your finger. Would that mean you weren’t married? No! Of course you would still be married! See, you can be a follower of Jesus, but not baptised, but your sin is still paid for and forgiven by God. But imagine that you truly are married and really, really love your spouse. Would you wear a wedding ring? Of course! When we are in love, we are happy, even proud, to wear a ring and let the whole world know it! In the same way, if you have trusted Jesus to save you from sin, and He is the lord and joy of your life, then we will want everyone to know about it! So, baptism is a statement to everyone who sees it that I have trusted Jesus for my salvation, and I’m committed to living for Him.
Why should I think about getting baptised?
If you have made a commitment to following Jesus, being baptised is an act of obedience to His command when he tells us in Matthew 28: 19 – 20, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In baptism we confirm that we choose to follow Jesus with our life, to repent of our sin, die to our old self and raise again as the new creation in Christ, born of water and of the Spirit (John 3:5).
In Mark 1: 9 – 11, we read that Jesus himself was baptised, and that is the moment where we read, “At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
In being baptised we follow the example set out to us by Jesus himself. It is a public declaration that we identify as a follower of Jesus. Baptism is a visible external sign of our move from death to life, it is a symbol of Jesus burial and resurrection and our joining of Him in this, as we are told in Colossians 2:12, “having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.”
Baptism does not make you a believer; it shows that you already are one! You are not ‘saved’ by being baptised, but by your faith in Jesus alone! As it says in Ephesians 2: 8 – 9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Baptism also joins us into the wider ‘family of believers’ as we are told in 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, “For we were all baptised by one Spirit into one body.” It is an visible image of the invisible grace that has saved us!
So, who should be baptised?
Every person who has made the decision to follow Jesus! When Paul writes to the believers in Rome, he assumes that all of them have been baptised (Romans 6). The one, and only requirement for baptism is belief in Christ!
“Those who accepted his message were baptised.” Acts 2:41
Followers of Jesus in the New Testament were baptised the same day! As soon as a person decides to follow Jesus, they can be, and are encouraged to be baptised.
In Acts 8 we read of a conversation Philip has while travelling along the road with an Ethiopian eunuch who hears the truth about Jesus for the first time and his response. “Then Philip began with that very passage of scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. As they travelled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptised?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptised him.” Acts 8:35-39

5. Annual Business Meeting: Feb 26
Dr. Calvin Smith, our Moderator, invites the Brunswick Street Baptist Church congregation to attend the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 6:45 PM in the sanctuary. To attend online, please contact naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca for your Zoom link. In the event of a storm, the meeting will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 6:45 PM.
A printed copy of the 2024 BSBC Annual Report is now ready! Pick up your paper copy at the Welcome Desks or contact Naomi or Janet in the church office for a digital copy.
This important gathering will highlight our ministries, opportunities to serve, and financial direction for 2025. Your participation is essential, as we require a quorum of 75 members for voting.
Before the meeting, join us in the gym at 5:30 PM for a Pizza Potluck! We’ll provide a variety of pizzas, including Meat, Works, Veggie and Cheese. Please bring a simple dessert or side salad to share.
At 6:30 PM, we’ll transition from the gym to the sanctuary to prepare for the start of the ABM.

7. Blended Baptism Service: Feb 16
Join us on Sunday, February 16 in the sanctuary for our Blended Baptism Service where we will witness a Believer’s Baptism for people from both our English and Mandarin congregations. Don’t miss this special opportunity to share in the joy of those taking this important step of faith.

8. 55+ Luncheon: Feb 18
Join us for the 55+ Luncheon on Tuesday, February 18 at 12:00 noon.
Our guest speaker Dave Whyte will take us on a captivating 4-day, 4000-kilometre railway journey from Toronto to Vancouver. Enjoy a delicious meal of ham and potato scallop with mixed veggies and gingerbread, connect with great company, and experience an afternoon of fellowship and storytelling. We hope to see you there!
9. Muffin Ministry
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way.
Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as March 2nd for our Sunday night outreach program. Moving forward, we require 3 dozen muffins each week. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for Him.
10. Curious Verses: Wednesdays
Sometimes Biblical verses may seem puzzling, confusing or curious. David Clark is offering this class to look at verses that speak about a range of topics including identity, fear, success, prayer, doubt, calling, and the will of God, to see if we can come to better understand what the scriptures are saying. All are invited to attend the study on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in the Family Room.
11. Reducing the Risk Training: Feb 16
We are so grateful for your dedication to serving in ministries with our vulnerable groups. To help ensure we continue to provide the safest environment for those we care for, we invite you to join us for the Reducing the Risk training this Sunday, February 16th at 12:00 pm, following the church service, in the KidzTown Fellowship area.

BSBC offers an exciting scouting program for boys from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Through outdoor adventures, engaging activities, and meaningful community service projects, boys learn to live out the Great Commission—growing in their love for God and serving their neighbors.
NO Sunday School: February 16
Happy Family Day weekend! This Sunday there will be no Sunday school. We encourage families to take the extra time to be with one another, and for our Sunday School teachers to enjoy the Sunday off.
Join us for Sunday School next Sunday, February 23rd, a time of learning for our children and youth. It provides age-specific teaching about the Gospel for students from Pre-K to Grade 12. During this time, parents and adults can enjoy tea, coffee, and fellowship in the Connection Center and Family Room.

Our Leadership & Discipleship Training takes place every Wednesday evening from 6:45-8:00 PM. This is a time for youth to develop leadership skills, brainstorm ideas, and explore how to implement them within youth ministries. Greenhouse Band Practice: Wednesdays, 6:00 – 6:40 PM

Skating at Officer’s Square: Sunday, February 16, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
We invite our youth to join us this Sunday for skating in Officer’s Square at 2:00 pm. There are free skate rentals available for those students who do not have skates. All are welcome to join us at this youth gathering!
Youth Overnighter: Saturday, February 21
Get ready for another exciting Youth Overnighter! Join us on Friday, February 21, from 7:30 pm to Saturday, February 22 at 8:00 am for a night full of fun, fellowship, and a church sleepover! All youth are welcome to come and enjoy a great evening together.
We'll be staying overnight at the church, so don’t forget to bring your sleeping bag, pillow, and PJs. Stay tuned for more details—we can't wait to see you there!

Tidal Impact: July 8 to 13, 2025
Tidal Impact is Atlantic Canada’s premier youth missional event, with our denomination. The model for the event is simple – a visiting church partners with a host church for a life-changing week of making an impact. A week full of serving the community and sharing the love of Jesus.
Throughout the week, students (middle school and high school students) will be challenged to practice and embrace being on mission with Jesus every day, everywhere. Students will experience high-energy rallies, neighbouring opportunities, serving, and lots of FUN! It has the potential to be an amazing win for our youth ministry, church and for the entire host community.
We will be going to PEI this year for Tidal Impact. Registration is open. The cost is $150.00 per student, and we will be raising additional funds for travel and other items. All youth are welcome to join us for this weeklong missions trip. If finances are an issue, please contact Pastor Nikki directly. We do not want any student to miss this event due to financial constraints. If you are interested in knowing more about Tidal Impact, please reach out. Register at this link!
13. Fresh Start Young Adults: Tuesdays
Our Young Adults ministry, Fresh Start, will meet on Tuesdays, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, on the 3rd floor of the Family Life Center. Come along for some fun, snacks and social time followed by a Bible study. We would love to see you there!

14. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: February 9
This Sunday in the Sanctuary, we will have a Blended Baptism Service, celebrating baptisms from both our English and Mandarin congregations. Greg Keezer will lead the worship team, with special music from the Mandarin Choir, as we come together for this special time of worship and renewal.
Pastor Changbin will be leading the devotional titled, “Getting Rid of the Old and Embracing the New.”
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.

Your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for the engagement of Rev. Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, sanctuary Ministry Coordinator and the Baptist Chaplin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and Doug McAllister, our Benevolent Coordinator and Senior’s Visitation Pastor.

• Your pastors will only know of hospitalizations if the church office or individual pastors are contacted directly
• We’d appreciate you notifying the office if you know of the hospitalization of a member of the BSBC family

Parish Nurses
The parish nursing ministry is intended to support and strengthen the spiritual, physical and emotional well-being of individuals, families, and the congregation at BSBC. Roz Thompson and Cheryl Gibson, your parish nurses, collaborate with members of the pastoral team promoting health and faith, to facilitate the healing of the body, mind, and spirit. The parish nurses are available to provide prayer and support for physical, mental, and spiritual health challenges.

New Out-of-the-Cold Shelter Opens in Fredericton
A new out-of-the-cold shelter is now open in Fredericton, offering essential support for those experiencing homelessness. Located at 355 Smythe St., the shelter provides overnight accommodations, personal hygiene facilities, and warming areas. It operates daily from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., with 24-hour access during extreme cold periods.
Operated by Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc., this temporary shelter is a vital step in addressing the needs of unhoused individuals during the harsh winter months. Mayor Kate Rogers emphasized the importance of organizations with expertise in providing care while long-term solutions are developed.
