Holy Week at BSBC

Maundy Thursday Communion/Foot Washing

Thursday, April 14, 6:30 p.m. • In-Person Only

Jesus’ time with his disciples, gathered for the Passover, was both intimate and complex. It was the pivotal moment when servant leadership became a mandate for all followers of Jesus. It was the gathering at which a new covenant in Christ’s blood was introduced. This is an event that reflects the human condition of misguided objectives and the untrustworthiness of the human heart.

As Jesus’ disciples in 2022, we gather in the sanctuary for a very gentle, quiet service of considering all these elements. A time to ponder our faithfulness to Christ and to come face to face with the love and grace that removes the stain of all failings.

Come, and REMEMBER.

Good Friday: Worship at the Cross

Friday, April 15, 10:30 a.m. • In-Person & Online

Dreams were shattered at the cross of Calvary.  Hopes for the overthrow of Roman invaders had come to nothing. The Messiah’s life had been taken from him. Or so they thought.

And it might be that we miss the unfathomable depth of God’s love, his willingness to cover the sin-debt we owed with the blood of his one and only son. But that’s the point of Good Friday:

God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them! John 3:16-17

On Good Friday, join us in the sanctuary, in-person or online, as we consider the record of Jesus’ suffering. Dr. Bodner will be leading us to consider an oft-overlooked character of the account: Joseph of Arimathea. What is it we need to bury on this Good Friday?

An Easter Celebration with the East Coast Brass

Saturday, April 16, 6:30 p.m. • In-Person Only

Praise God in his temple.

Praise God with trumpets
and all kinds of harps.

Let every living creature
praise the Lord.
Shout praises to the Lord!

Psalm 150 (Selected)

Easter calls for a celebration! Since we were not able to secure Gabriel and his trumpet, we’ll have as our special guests, The East Coast Brass. Their Christmas offering at BSBC was a celebration in the truest sense of the word. Plan to join us in-person on April 16, 6:30 PM for a concert of exciting music for brass.  Spanning many styles — there will be something for everyone. The offering goes to these talented musicians.

Easter SonRise Service

Sunday, April 17, 7:30 am, Odell Park Lodge • In-Person Only

Join us for a great start to the celebrations as we gather to shout, “He is Risen!”

Weather permitting, we’ll be outside the Lodge with a brief time of worship and prayer and then an intergenerational group activity. We hope to leave a message of Christ’s resurrection for all to see.

The SonRise Service is followed by Hot Cross Buns, tea, coffee and juice. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll be inside the Lodge! See you there

Easter Sunday Morning Worship Services

Sunday, April 17, 10:30 a.m. • In-Person & Online

Easter morning’s traditional and contemporary services will be filled with music, Scripture, and prayers of Celebration. In the sanctuary, we’ll welcome a brass trio to lead us. In the gym, children are encouraged to worship with their parents as they will be a special focus of this service. Then, during the sermon time, they will leave with their leaders for some Easter fun and learning before returning at the end of the service. This will be a great morning to be a Kindergarten to Grade 5 child @ BSBC!
