A Message from your Social Action Team
Two weeks ago there was radio and newspaper coverage regarding a project that your Social Action Team is very excited about. Marcel Lebrun met with our team in June 2021 to explain the 12 Neighbours community concept and we have been eagerly waiting to share this news with you. You can listen to Marcel talk about this project last week on CBC’s Information Morning website. You can also read more about the concept on the 12 Neighbours website.
So, you may ask, why is the BSBC Social Action Team excited by someone else’s project? Simply put, Marcel has approached the homelessness issue from a completely different direction than just "handouts." Through his research for his "12 Neighbours" video series, he saw organizations worldwide that put the focus on dignity, opportunity and community, and the powerful change these values have in the lives of our neighbours. The "12 Neighbours Community" seeks to apply the same values within our city, providing a way out of homelessness for people within Fredericton.
So please take some time and check out the proposal and prayerfully consider how you might support this new initiative, both presently, and as the community grows. For those who haven't seen the 12 Neighbours series, it is still available to watch online.
Yours in Action,
Martina and Adrian Verboom
